Haircare, sorted by concern
Hair rarely has just one need. You might be dealing with breakage and dullness at the same time, or trying to stimulate growth while also calming an itchy scalp. Rather than scrolling through everything on offer, shopping by concern means going straight to what's formulated to help with what's actually going on.
Dull hair
Hair that's lost its shine usually isn't a structural issue. It's more often down to product build-up, hard water, or a cuticle that isn't lying flat enough to reflect light properly. Clarifying ingredients help lift build-up at the root of the problem, while lightweight, shine-boosting formulas, think fruit-derived acids or polishing plant oils, are commonly used to smooth the cuticle and bring back some natural lustre.
Weak and damaged hair
Brittle, breakage-prone hair with split ends and a rough, straw-like texture usually points to a compromised hair fibre, most often the result of heat styling, colouring, chemical treatments or over-brushing.
Repairing ingredients such as keratin, hyaluronic acid and nourishing plant oils are commonly used to help reinforce the hair shaft from the outside in and restore some resilience. Our Keratin AA, Peptides & Hyaluronic Acid Hair Serum and Chebe Infused Oil are two formulas built with exactly this in mind.
It's worth keeping in mind that existing split ends can't be repaired, only trimmed, but strengthening the rest of the length can help prevent new ones from forming.
Hair loss
Thinning hair or a receding hairline can have several causes, from stress to hormonal changes or nutritional gaps.
Active ingredients such as biotin, ginseng and caffeine are widely used to help support the hair growth cycle. Some of our natural hair care products, such as our Hair Complex food supplement, are formulated with anti-hair-loss properties in mind, alongside tools like the Scalp Massaging Brush to help stimulate the scalp.
Dry hair
Over-washing, heat styling, colouring or simply changes in seasons can leave all hair types feeling parched. Nourishing, moisture-rich ingredients help replenish what's missing. Our Organic Coconut Oil is commonly used to help restore softness to dry lengths.
Dry coily hair
Coily and textured hair tends to be drier by nature, simply because natural oils have a harder time travelling down a curved hair shaft.
Rich, moisture-locking ingredients such as shea butter, castor oil and coconut oil are typically used to help keep coils defined and hydrated without weighing them down.
Hair exposed to heat, sun or friction
Whether it's heat, sun or everyday friction, hair takes a fair amount of punishment. Protective oils like jojoba and coconut are commonly used to help form a barrier against damage.
Our Karanja & Raspberry Protective Hair Oil and Organic Jojoba Oil are two options formulated with everyday protection in mind.
Scalp irritation, itching
An itchy or uncomfortable scalp usually calls for gentle, purifying care rather than anything too heavy. Calming ingredients such as nettle and soothing plant extracts are often used here, alongside purifying formulas.
Frizzy, unruly hair
Frizz-prone hair tends to respond well to lightweight smoothing ingredients that help control moisture exchange with the air. Silicone-free plant oils and conditioning agents are the usual go-to for taming flyaways without weighing hair down.
Greasy hair
Greasy roots usually come down to overactive sebum production at the scalp, sometimes made worse by over-washing, which can actually encourage the scalp to produce even more oil to compensate.
Purifying, lightweight formulas are typically used to help rebalance things without stripping the scalp entirely. Our Organic Nettle Leaf Powder, commonly used for its purifying properties, is a natural option worth considering.
Greasy roots, dry ends (combination)
It's actually more common than you'd think. This combination usually means sebum production at the scalp never quite makes its way down the length of the hair. The trick is treating each zone differently: purifying care at the roots, and lighter, lightweight oils applied from mid-length to ends only, so you're not adding extra weight or grease to an area that's already prone to it.
Dandruffs
Flaking, whether dry or oily, is often linked to an imbalanced scalp microbiome or a build-up of product and dead skin cells. Gentle, purifying formulas are typically used to help rebalance the scalp, and ingredients like tea tree are commonly included for their purifying properties.
If flaking is persistent, itchy or doesn't improve with regular care, it's worth checking in with a pharmacist or dermatologist, as it may point to a scalp condition that needs more targeted treatment.
Folliculitis
This refers to inflammation of the hair follicles, often appearing as small, sometimes itchy or sore bumps on the scalp. It can have several triggers, from friction to product build-up. Gentle, non-comedogenic formulas are generally recommended over anything heavy or occlusive, but because folliculitis can also stem from an infection, it's genuinely one to get checked by a GP rather than treat with haircare alone.
Alopecia
Alopecia covers a range of conditions that cause hair loss, some temporary, some longer-term, and the right approach depends heavily on the underlying cause. While a gentle, nourishing routine can help support the scalp and existing hair, alopecia itself is a medical condition best assessed by a GP or dermatologist, who can advise on the most appropriate treatment.
