Hair care

Properties

As a hair care ingredient, organic neutral henna plant extract is recognised for its properties:

  • Haircare

  • Strengthens the hair fibre

  • Adds hold to hair

  • Ideal for oily hair, limits sebum secretion

  • Makes hair supple and shiny

  • Soothes and purifies the scalp

Uses

The different forms that can be used:

  • As a treatment, between two colouring henna or on its own. For a neutral henna hair treatment, we recommend a 20-30 minute application time.

  • Mixed with colouring henna to dilute the colour or modulate the shade. You can then leave on for as long as you need to obtain the desired colour, generally 1 to 3 hours.

  • To prepare a plant-based shampoo: combine neutral henna with powders rich in saponins (Shikakaï, Reetha) for their cleansing effect. Prepare a paste with water, apply to the scalp and massage in, stretching to cover the lengths and leave on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing.

  • Before shampooing : apply the neutral henna paste to dry hair. Leave on for 15-30 minutes. Tip: you can replace the hot water with decoctions, carrier oils, essential oils, etc. (Example: rosemary to combat dandruff)

How to apply henna paste

Preparation advice

  • Do a trial on hair from your hairbrush, wait 24 hours to assess the final result.

  • Wear gloves

  • Avoid using metal utensils to make your paste

  • Protect your clothes (especially the shoulders) with an old T-shirt, for example

  • Apply a thick layer: the thicker the paste, the richer and deeper the colour.

  • After applying the paste, wrap your hair in cling film to keep it warm and comfortable. The paste should remain moist throughout the application.

  • The longer you leave the paste on, the more intense the result.

Applying the paste: for plant-based hair colour (mixed with a henna colourant)

Step 1

Comb through clean, dry hair and divide into 2 sections. You can use a piping bag, bottle, brush or your (gloved) fingers.

Step 2

Start at the back of the head, applying the henna in strands and working it through to the scalp.

Step 3

Continue with the top of the head, applying in thick layers, working in strands.

Step 4

Massage to ensure all the hair is well covered and pull it into a bun.

Step 5

Clean the area around your face and ears, then wrap your hair in clingfilm. Leave on for 15 minutes to 3 hours, then rinse thoroughly. For hair care, 30 minutes is enough.

Storage and precautions

Storage

Store away from air, moisture and light. Close the container tightly after each use.

Precautions

Powdery product, do not use near a source of ventilation.

  • Staining product, protect clothing when using.

  • Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • This powder is highly active. We recommend that you always do a test in the crease of the elbow 24 hours before application.

  • Not recommended for application for long periods on light hair (blonde, white, grey). Depending on the batch, neutral henna can bring highlights or a slight yellow or copper colouration to light hair when left on for a long time (this is not a problem when added to a plant-based shampoo that is left on for only a few minutes).

Find out more

"Neutral" henna comes from the leaves of cassia auriculata, often also known as cassia italica or cassia obovata, which comes from India. It produces a powder with similar strengthening properties to real henna ( Egyptian henna) but does not colour the hair, hence the name "neutral" henna.
