Recipes

Do I have to make my own cosmetics?

We offer ready-to-use serums and bases (creams, scrubs, milks, shampoos, etc.) that you can use on their own or customise. This gives you the freedom to look after yourself based on your preferences, your schedule, your sensitivities or your commitments.

I'd like to adapt a recipe to the ingredients I already have. What should I do?

We do not recommend modifying our recipes. They are formulated, tested, evaluated and validated by our Research & Development team so that you will end up with a stable blend that is safe and pleasant to use. By changing the ingredients, you can also change the texture, stability and tolerance of your skin or hair care product, and we can no longer guarantee that it is safe or high-quality.

Is it compulsory to add fragrances to the recipes on offer?

Fragrances are not essential ingredients in our recipes. If you prefer a more subtle scent, you can do without this additive without affecting tolerance or stability. However, we do not recommend replacing a fragrance with another product or with an essential oil.

Can I add fragrances and essential oils simultaneously to my personalised base?

You'll have to choose between adding essential oil OR fragrance, but you can't add both to your personalised base for tolerance reasons. Be sure to stick to the prescribed doses.

Can you make me a made-to-measure recipe?

Our recipes are formulated, tested, evaluated and validated by our Research & Development team so that you will end up with a stable blend that is safe and pleasant to use. However, we do not offer tailor-made formulations, nor can we test all our customers' combinations or creative ideas.

Can you make my personalised product and send it to me ready to use?

We suggest you make your own products according to your personal needs. Choose your active ingredients or recipe, then make your own skin or hair product at home.

I can't find my recipe. Can Customer Service find it for me?

Unfortunately, no, our team cannot find your recipe after the event. You can find out how to personalise your cleansing base, cream or mask... by checking out its factsheet. You can also find our advice by entering your problem in the search engine and clicking on the "our advice" or "our recipes" tabs.

Where is the use-by date?

You'll find the best-before date on the label of your product or on the back or bottom of the product. The best-before date is indicated by a month and a year. The shelf life is represented by a small jar with an open lid and is expressed in months (9M means that the product must be used within 9 months of opening).

Can I use my ingredients beyond the best-before date?

We prefer not to recommend the use of your ingredients beyond the expiry date and cannot guarantee if they will be high quality any more in terms of use, stability or tolerance.

Plant-based dye

General questions

How can I lighten my hair?

No, because the very principle of plant-based dyes is to add a pigment to the hair. It will not be possible to obtain the results that you get from chemical colouring, which destroys the melanin, the hair's natural pigment, by oxidation, making the hair lighter.

Why does my grey hair turn orange after I colour it?

Plant-based colouring deposits its pigment on your hair and, based on the principle of colorimetry, the result obtained will be the sum of the base colour and the added colour. So, if your hair is white, the colour you get will be rather orange because the henna in your colouring will not be tempered by the base colour of your grey hair.

How can I correct the orange tint my grey hair has taken on?

On grey hair, the colour obtained with a plant-based dye containing henna will always be rather orange because the henna contained in your dye will not be tempered by the basic colour of your grey hair. The application of a colouring agent that releases blue pigments, based on katam or indigo, will produce a shade ranging from chocolate to dark brown. This is the "two-step" method adapted to grey hair. Thanks to the principle of colorimetry, the sum of the orange and bluish pigments will result in a "brown".

What colour is recommended for grey and blond hair?

Do not leave plant masks on for long to avoid the appearance of a false yellow or orange sheen. On the other hand, our neutral hair mask bases, shampoo and cleansing bases are perfectly suitable because they are very gentle and do not contain sulphates.

What is 2-step colouring?

A two-stage colouring process gives intense results and good coverage of grey hair and chestnut, chocolate to black tones. It consists of 1 initial application of a mixture rich in henna and then, after rinsing, a second application rich in katam or indigo.

Can I use hair colour to tint my eyebrows, eyelashes or beard?

We do not recommend using these very active plants on the face or around the eyes.

Plant powders & chemically coloured / bleached hair?

A wide variety of plant powders without colouring properties are effective for hair care. Applied for short periods (15 minutes), they do not tint the hair. However, we do not recommend their use on coloured or bleached hair with lighter shades, to avoid the appearance of unwanted highlights.

How to choose my shade?

How do I choose my shade?

Unlike chemical colouring, which oxidises the hair's natural pigment (melanin) and then adds a chemical pigment, plant-based dye does not alter the hair's structure. Plant-based colouring deposits its pigment on your hair base. Based on the principle of colorimetry, the result obtained will be the sum of the base colour and the added colour. The lighter the area of hair to be covered, the more pigment will need to be added to colour it, the darker the area of hair, the less light shades will show through. You'll need to choose an approximate shade to suit your tastes and test it on a representative section of hair. This will allow you to preview the shade you'll get, taking into account the nature of your own hair. A test is particularly necessary if you have grey hairs in your hair.

Why do I have green highlights in my hair?

Some plants will release bluish pigments in your chosen colour to produce chestnut, brown or black tones. These plants, katam or indigo, are essential in the blend. Without them, only the red hues of henna would be possible. After application, it takes 72 hours for the bluish pigments to oxidise completely, and the green highlights that are normal and expected with 'fresh' colouring will have disappeared.

How can I tone down an overly intense brassiness in my hair?

Your plant-based hair dye will cover your hair and fade naturally within 4 to 6 weeks of application. If the result is a little too intense, you can fast track the process by applying several successive "detox" masks.

I have light hair. How do I choose my colour?

On light or grey hair, Golden Blonde and Honey Chestnut colours will enhance or tone down the blonde hue. Beyond that, the colours will tend to change the tone, and the test will allow you to see the result so you don't go too dark without wanting to.

I have dark or medium hair. How do I choose my colour?

On medium blond or darker hair, Golden Blonde and Honey Chestnut dyes will not be intense enough to have a visible effect. They will not lighten the hair. Instead, try another colour from the range of caramel henna, natural chestnut, dark chestnut to ebony black. You can try out the Copper or Auburn options. If part of your hair is grey, the colour obtained will not be uniform (lighter and copper on grey hair, darker on dark hair). A two-stage colouring process should be considered.

How can I get redder highlights in my hair?

Opt for a Yemen henna rich in red pigment to give your hair intense red tones. Adapt your application time according to the intensity you're looking for and the initial colour of your hair, from 30 minutes for highlights to 1 hour to 3 hours depending on your tastes and preferences. Remember to test on a representative strand of your hair to see the result before applying to the whole head. Apply after an initial plant-based dye, where the result is not red enough, to add a little pigment and obtain the desired result.

Tips

Is it preferable to switch to plant-based dyes?

Prepare your hair for plant-based dye by doing a ‘detox’ for 4 to 6 weeks after your last chemical dye. Take the time to carry out a test on a representative lock of hair before taking the plunge. This will ensure that you don't end up with a colour you don't like all over your hair.

Can I go back to chemical colouring after plant-based dye?

Without reapplication, the plant-based colour gradually fades over the 4 to 6 weeks following your colouring. You can speed up the process by carrying out a "detox" for 4 to 6 weeks following your last plant-based colouring.

Can I bleach hair after using a plant-based dye?

Without reapplication, the plant-based colour gradually fades over the 4 to 6 weeks following your colouring. However, residues of plant pigments may remain and discolouration may lead to uncertain or undesirable results.

Is it possible to use plant-based dyes after bleaching?

During bleaching, an oxidation product breaks down the hair's natural pigment, melanin, resulting in a lighter shade. The structure of the hair is modified by this treatment and it will be difficult to anticipate the results obtained by applying a plant-based colour. It is therefore very important to carry out a test on a representative strand of your hair to ensure that you like the result.

Do I need to test my plant-based dye on a lock of hair?

Apply to a lock of hair taken from your brush under the same conditions as the real dye (water/powder ratio of the blend, application time, use of cling film, etc.). The final result can be seen after 48 hours (the time needed for the pigments to oxidise completely). Your sample must be representative of the nature of your hair (proportion of grey hair, dye or bleach, etc.).

Are plant-based dyes and Brazilian straightening compatible?

Brazilian straightening will change the structure of the hair and it is difficult to predict the results. Carry out a test on a representative strand of your hair to get a better idea of the result. If you want to do a Brazilian straightening after your plant-based dye, be sure to tell your hairdresser.

Can I change my shade between two plant-based colours?

You can choose another plant-based colour and apply it without any special preparation if you already use plant-based colours. Remember that the pigments you add will cover the previous colour and that the result will be the sum of the different layers of pigment on your hair. This means you can enhance highlights or darken your hair, but you can't lighten it (for example, by applying Golden Blonde Henna colouring after a Dark Chestnut).

Can I apply plant-based dye to my roots?

Yes, it is possible to colour only the roots and not the rest of the hair. Remember that on grey hair, you need to colour it in two stages so as not to retain any orange highlights if you don't want to. A test will enable you to anticipate the results on your roots.

Why is walnut stain not enough to cover my orangey-coppery highlights?

Walnut stain alone does not allow for a successful two-step dye. It should be combined in varying proportions with katam or indigo, which provide the bluish pigment needed to obtain chestnut, chocolate or black tones after henna. You will need to test adding a fraction of this powder to your own mixture. Testing on a strand is the best way to enable you to precisely formulate your new blend based on the results.

Should plant-based hair colour be applied to clean hair?

Yes, it's important to rid your scalp of accumulated sebum and impurities before application. You can wash your hair with a gentle, silicone-free shampoo (to avoid waterproofing the hair fibre). Apply the plant-based dye to clean, towel-dried or dry hair. Once the colour has been rinsed off, do not shampoo again immediately afterwards or for 4 days afterwards to allow the colour to oxidise properly and to avoid removing any pigment during the fixing process.

Can I add other ingredients to my dye to soften my hair?

We do not recommend the addition of other ingredients which may reduce the setting of the colour by waterproofing (oils, etc.) or by dilution (the proportion of colouring powder becomes lower).

How long should hair dye last?

The length of time it takes to work depends on the result you are looking for and the original colour of your hair. From 30 minutes for highlights to 1 to 3 hours for intense dye: the results of your tests on a lock of hair are what will help you work out the right exposure time to suit your needs.
