Our history

A passion for essential oils

In 1999, over a family meal, the Aroma-Zone project was born. The idea was simple: to share our knowledge and passion for essential oils, those fabulous concentrates of vital plant forces.

The roots of this project lie in our untouched memories of the wild and beautiful nature of the Margeride, the rugged and wild land of our childhood. It was in these rugged, magnificent landscapes that our love of the land and our sensitivity to the power of plants was born.

At the end of 1999, Aroma-Zone, an aromatherapy information website, was born. Completely "home-made", we created it as a family, my father, my sister Valérie and I, all three trained engineers.

Very quickly, producers contacted us from Madagascar, Mexico, Spain and India… to offer us their essential oils. And so, in May 2000, Aroma-Zone became one of the very first online sales sites for essential oils. From then on, Valérie and I set about enriching the site with new essential oils, by forging close links with passionate producers around the world.


In the land of herbs

In 2005, we set up our offices in the land of aromatic plants, in Provence, at the foot of Mont Ventoux. What place could be more inspiring than this land dotted with lavender, thyme, rosemary, vines and bathed in light? It was also in 2005 that the idea was born of offering our customers everything they need to make their own homemade cosmetics - healthy, effective and, of course, 100% natural! Creams, shower gels, hair care products, make-up… - it's all possible! At first, we were seen as a UFO in the traditional cosmetics world, but it didn't matter - our customers believed in us and supported us!

Since then, the men and women who make the Aroma-Zone adventure happen share this passion for Nature and its treasures, and work every day to bring you the finest natural extracts, the most beautiful homemade cosmetics recipes and advice that's accessible to everyone, which we hope will create small positive revolutions in the way you take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Focus on the quality of our products

100% pure carrier oils

We prefer virgin carrier oils, obtained by first cold pressing wild plants or from certified organic farming, extracted within the year and 100% pure. This extraction method, combined with the freshness of the oil, guarantees oils of the highest quality, with their properties intact.

Highly concentrated hydrosols

All our hydrosols are 100% pure, preservative-free, fresh and highly concentrated. They are microfiltered to 0.2 microns for optimum cleanliness and microbiologically certified. The vast majority of our hydrosols come from certified organic and ecologically grown plants. Our hydrosols are best kept refrigerated.

Natural & organic cosmetics

Our range of cosmetic products (balms, aromatic oils, soaps, creams) is formulated by our cosmetics formulation expert, using only natural ingredients, with no added preservatives or synthetic fragrances. Our cosmetics are evaluated and tested by an in-house consumer panel, and all formulas are validated by our Doctor of Pharmacy.

Fully recyclable packaging for your parcels

We have chosen to protect your items with crumpled, fully recyclable paper. Our cardboard packaging is made from recycled pulp from sustainably managed forests and is manufactured in France.

Pure, natural essential oils

Our essential oils are pure and natural, complete and unmodified. They are rigorously selected according to exacting specifications. We carry out physico-chemical analyses on each batch (refractive index, rotatory power, density,…) as well as chromatography, guaranteeing the botanical identity and biochemical specificity of all our essential oils (EOBBD).

The quality guarantee

With a scientific background, the Aroma-Zone team includes around twenty chemical engineers, production engineers, cosmetics engineers and Doctors of Pharmacy, who work every day to bring you the very best of Nature.

  • A team of researchers

Sourced and selected from all over the world, our plant extracts are extensively tested by our scientific experts, such as Emilie, a chemical engineer. She researches and assesses the activity and safety of plant extracts and natural ingredients through laboratory tests and bibliographic research. All our ingredients are assessed according to a number of criteria: origin, composition, production method, activity… Our Research & Development team shares its know-how via our product data sheets and thematic dossiers, with the aim of always providing you with better information about our products and their use. Finally, our team answers your questions and requests for advice on our ingredients.


  • A cosmetics formulation team

Our cosmetics formulation team's laboratory is a veritable Ali Baba's cave of homemade cosmetics! This is where our teams formulate, create and test all the recipes we offer on our website. Each recipe undergoes stability tests and is monitored for 3 to 6 months. The recipes are then tested by an internal panel and their formulas are validated by our Doctor of Pharmacy. Our cosmetics formulation team also works on the recipes in our books and can answer any questions you may have about how to create the recipes.

  • A highly demanding Quality department


Under the direction of Nathalie, Quality Manager, the quality control team of over 13 people, including senior chemical technicians, ensures the quality/safety of all Aroma-Zone products (cosmetic ingredients, essential oils, finished cosmetic products, food products, packaging, accessories). The team carries out microbiological, physicochemical and organoleptic tests, and also relies on the results of accredited laboratories. All batches of essential and carrier oils are checked using gas chromatography to guarantee their authenticity and verify their specific characteristics. The entire Quality team is also on hand to answer your questions and provide information on the quality of your products.


  • A Purchasing and Research department for materials and packaging


Constantly on the lookout for new equipment and accessories from around the world, we can provide you with everything you need to make the best possible "home-made" cosmetics, while complying withhealth and safety regulations. Each new product is tested by our formulation team and our quality team to assess its practicality, accuracy and robustness. To minimise our impact on the environment, two requirements guide our research:


- Find packaging made in Europe or recycled to minimise the CO2 impact of transport

- Find packaging made from recyclable materials

- Select packaging that is easy to reuse


  • A trusted cosmetics laboratory

Our laboratory is registered as a cosmetics establishment with the ANSM (Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé). We therefore comply with very strict regulations on the manufacture and marketing of cosmetics, guaranteeing consumer safety. Our products are manufactured according to strict hygiene rules and in compliance with Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices (ISO 22716 standard), guaranteeing full traceability of each batch of products.















From extract research to recipe creation

Rigorously selected extracts and natural ingredients

  1. Search the world over for the finest plant extracts (essential oils, carrier oils, etc.)

  2. Request samples from producers

  3. Laboratory tests and bibliographical studies carried out by expert researchers

  4. Evaluation of the extracts and natural ingredients selected by a scientific validation committee (expert researcher, research and development manager, quality manager and management)

  5. Establishment of a long-term partnership with the producer

  6. Production of a technical file for each extract: extraction method and composition, properties and uses, precautions for use, quality control criteria, etc.

  7. Drafting of the advice sheet by a research expert
