Precautions

  • A powerful, pungent oil that can be irritating. It should be used diluted in a more neutral oil blend, to a maximum of 10-50% .

  • Not recommended for use on the face.

  • As a general rule, test your mixture in the crease of the elbow 24 to 48 hours before use on the skin or scalp.

  • A sensation of (slight) heating and tingling may occur when applying your mixture to the scalp or skin, which, among other things, indicates that the oil is working, but if the sensation becomes uncomfortable, rinse off the product with a mild shampoo or soap.

  • We advise you not to leave mustard oil products on the scalp for more than 1 hour.

  • Do not swallow. Due to its high erucic acid content, mustard oil is not considered edible in Europe.

  • Not recommended for children.

Black mustard, Brassica nigra, is an annual botanical plant in the Brassicaceae family. It is widely cultivated for its pungent seeds, which are used as a spice or ground to make condiments.

Mustard owes its pungent taste to the presence ofallyl isothiocyanate, which is formed when the seeds are crushed. In fact, like all Brassicaceae, black mustard contains glucosinolates (compounds responsible for the "cabbage smell"), which, when the seeds are crushed, break down in contact with an enzyme (myrosinase) present in other cell compartments, releasing allyl isothiocyanate.
