Properties

As a cosmetic ingredient, organic hemp seed oil is known for the following properties:

  • Anti-ageing, regenerating, and revitalising thanks to its essential fatty acids, which combat the effects of free radicals and stimulate the regeneration of the skin's hydrolipidic film.

  • Calming, has soothing effects on redness and irritation.

  • Highly emollient, it reduces water loss and protects the skin from dehydration.

  • Rapidly absorbed without leaving a greasy film, this 'dry' oil is very popular for massages.

  • Firming and softening, helps maintain the elasticity and youthfulness of your skin.

Indications

  • Wrinkles, fine lines

  • Dehydrated and dry skin

  • Tired, devitalised skin

  • Mature skin

Uses

Use as an ingredient in your oil blends:

  • Anti-ageing and repairing emulsions for combination, normal or dry skin

  • Anti-drying lip balms

  • Enriched soaps for dry skin

  • Light massage oils combined with essential oils

In practice

Because of the potential risk of oxidation due to the sensitivity of this carrier oil, we recommend adding vitamin E before heating for incorporation into an emulsion.

Hemp has been used for centuries, mainly for its therapeutic and anaesthetic properties. In Europe, hemp was used until the early twentieth century to treat plague, rheumatism, joint pain and certain mental illnesses.

In 1941, Cannabis sativa was withdrawn from the official French pharmacopoeia because of its misuse as a narcotic. It was not until 1990 that the cultivation of hemp without psychotropic active ingredients was once again authorised in France, and the sale of its precious oil became widespread.
