Found in fields and on embankments, borage is known for its pretty star-shaped blue flower. Believed to make people cheerful and happy, it has long been used to treat various ailments. Its name comes from the Arabic 'abou-rach' , which literally means 'father of sweat' , referring to the sudorific effect of its flowers.
The seeds, on the other hand, produce an oil that is incredibly rich in gamma-linolenic acid and linoleic acid (omega-6).
Widely used in cosmetics for its renowned regenerating and anti-ageing properties, borage oil provides suppleness, elasticity, and firmness to dry and mature skin. It restores strength and vitality to hair.
When taken internally, it is valued for its richness in gamma-linolenic acid (omega-6) and is traditionally recommended to help with premenstrual symptoms, menopausal symptoms, joint discomfort, and to improve the condition of skin with atopic tendencies.
