The mineral pigment that colours this clay (manganese violet) is not stable in alkaline environments (it loses its colour and turns khaki-grey); this clay is therefore not suitable for colouring soaps.
The colour also does not hold in solid shampoos or in aqueous cosmetics (creams, milks, gels, etc.).

To make a mask, a wrap or a poultice

Purple clay is used mixed with other powders (clays, plant powders) intended for the preparation of masks, poultices or body wraps.

Step 1

Pour the purple clay together with the other powders (other clays, plants, etc.) into a suitable container.

Step 2

Add water or a hydrosol while mixing until you obtain a smooth, creamy paste.

Apply your mask in 3 steps

Immediately apply the mixture in a thick layer on the skin (face, neck, body) or hair, etc.
Leave on until the mask begins to dry. It is recommended to not let the mixture dry completely.
Rinse thoroughly with water to remove the mask.

Aroma-Zone Tip

Clay pastes do not keep and should be used quickly after preparation (48 hours storage maximum in the refrigerator).
If you wish to incorporate essential oils into a clay paste, we recommend adding a small amount of oil or Solubol to solubilise them.
For better results, do not heat the clay and avoid contact with metal that oxidises. You can use stainless steel or plastic equipment. For mixing, use a plastic spatula.

Mix the purple clay with the mineral powders and pigments, ideally by grinding with a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder to ensure good pigment dispersion.

Purple clay is obtained by grinding kaolin and mineral pigments. It is rich in silica and low in mineral salts, making it less absorbent than green clay. Its unusual colour provides soft violet shades in powder make-up and beautiful intense violets in cosmetic preparations.

Focus on absorption and adsorption:

Clays have the ability to absorb liquids such as water, filling up much like a sponge.

Clays also have the capacity to adsorb, meaning they can bind molecules to their surface. This ability comes from their negative charge, which is due to the presence of minerals (the higher the mineral salt content, the stronger the negative charge).

When clay is in solution, it attracts positively charged ions from the solution and can exchange them upon contact with the skin. Clay therefore contributes to skin remineralisation and detoxification by exchanging its mineral salts with toxins and impurities present on the skin. This phenomenon also allows clay to carry active ingredients and release them onto the skin.
