Step 1

Heat the water and the oil phase (sweet olive wax and butter) to around 70°C in 2 separate bowls.

Step 2

Mix the phases and shake vigorously for at least 3 mins to form the emulsion, then for a further 3 mins, cooling the bowl in a cold water bath.

Step 3

Add the preservative and, if necessary, the fragrance and colouring.

The avocado is the fruit of the avocado tree (Persea americana), a member of the Lauraceae family native to North America (Mexico). It is a climacteric fruit, meaning that as it ripens, it gives off ethylene, as is the case for bananas, apples, etc. The avocado is also unique in that it only ripens once it has been detached from the tree.

Numerous writings mention the use of the plant by the Aztecs, who used the flesh of the fruit to protect their skin from the drying winds.

They also applied it to their hair to encourage growth and made ointments to delay the onset of old age.

Rich in oleic acid, carotenoids and nutrients, avocado carrier oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit (the flesh we are used to eating) because, paradoxically, the stone contains very little fat (just 2%).

Our avocado butter is made from organic virgin avocado carrier oil by adding saturated fatty acids (thickeners) andunsaponifiable matter derived from olive oil. It's a lovely green colour, with a sweet, plant-based scent reminiscent of avocado, and contains all the beneficial components of avocado carrier oil. Its thick, creamy consistency makes it ideal as a cosmetic ingredient in your nourishing skincare formulas.

I discovered avocado butter a few years ago, and I think it was a revelation. It makes the skin very soft, brightens the complexion. It's one of the best, I can't do without it. It also protects from the sun, makes the skin incredible. Try it, you won't be disappointed. It's very greasy though, but the next morning when you wake up and cleanse your face, you'll be impressed with the result. I also use it on dry areas of my body, on knees, feet, etc.
