Anti-frizz hair products: How to actually tame frizz

Frizz is usually a moisture problem: the hair cuticle lifting up rather than lying flat, letting humidity in and light bounce around unevenly. That's why taming it takes more than just a good brush.

2 key elements to help with frizz

Smoothing the cuticle and keeping moisture balanced are the two things that make the real difference

1. Smoothing the cuticle

Frizz happens when the outer layer of the hair, the cuticle, lifts up instead of lying flat. Once it's raised, moisture from the air gets in more easily and light bounces off unevenly, which is what gives hair that rough, fuzzy look rather than a smooth one. Smoothing that cuticle back down is really the first job.

2. Keeping moisture balanced

The second piece of the puzzle is hydration, and it sounds counterintuitive, but dry hair often frizzes more, not less. When the hair fibre lacks its own moisture, it tends to pull whatever it can from the air around it, which is exactly what causes that swelling, frizzy effect in humid weather.

The Hyaluronic Acid 3.5% Serum, formulated for both face and hair, is worth considering too, its moisturising, plumping properties help keep the hair fibre hydrated from within, which is often half the battle with frizz.

A simple anti-frizz everyday routine

A light layer of oil on damp lengths, followed by a keratin-based hair serum focused on the areas that frizz up most, tends to cover most bases without weighing hair down.

In need of a proper hair routine?

Frizz is rarely the only thing going on, it's often tangled up with dryness, damage or a scalp that needs its own attention.
