In brief
Essential oils can be used in a diffuser, on the skin, internally, in the bath, for massage or by inhalation, but their high concentration means it is essential to follow the specific application method, dosage and precautions for each oil.
For beauty purposes, dosages vary depending on the application: approximately 0.1 to 1 per cent for the face, 0.5 to 2 per cent for the body and 0.1 to 2 per cent for the hair. For massage, generally use 2 to 5 per cent in a carrier oil, and always dilute essential oils intended for internal use with a suitable carrier.
Caution remains essential: some oils are very potent and are not suitable for all uses. When used in the bath, they must be mixed with a dispersant or an oily carrier, as they do not dissolve in water.
