The multitude of nicknames given to Arnica macerated oil shows that it has been widely used for many centuries to treat blows, strains and sprains, and to make bruises disappear. Arnica montana is a yellow-flowered mountain plant in the Asteraceae family. It is found in pastures at altitudes of between 1200 and 2800 metres in France (Vosges, Alps, Massif Central, Pyrenees) and in central and northern Europe (as far north as Siberia). It grows on nutrient-poor, siliceous soils.
In days gone by, dried arnica leaves were even smoked by mountain dwellers to combat coughs and bronchitis. There are many ointments and tinctures containing arnica. It is also used in the form of homeopathic granules to prevent and treat bruises. Oily macerates provide a concentrate of the active ingredients contained in arnica flowers, making them easy to incorporate into your oils, balms and skin care creams. It's the ideal ingredient for skin care products for the whole family!
