Plukenetia volubilis, more commonly known as Sacha Inchi, Inca nut or Inca peanut, is a plant native to the Amazon rainforest. The Indians have been cultivating and using it for thousands of years for its many properties. Inca nut seeds produce a rare and exceptional oil, with a distinctive, vegetal odour reminiscent of bean pods.
Rich in omega-3 and 6, Inca nut oil has exceptional levels of essential fatty acids, the reknowned fatty acids that are vital to the body. On the skin, these fatty acids play an active role in the reconstitution of epidermal lipids.
Linoleic acid (omega-6) helps to limit water loss from the skin, while also having softening and nourishing qualities.
Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), as well as maintaining the skin'selasticity, is reputed to have an action on anti-inflammatory processes: it is therefore useful for reducing redness and calming irritation.
Inca nut oil promoteshydration* and soothes skin prone to irritation, and is traditionally recommended for skin with an atopic tendencies (eczema, etc.) . Finally, the presence of antioxidant vitamin E in this oil gives it useful properties for protecting the skin from the effects of free radicals and the signs of ageing.
* moisturises the upper layers of the epidermis
