A member of the Asteraceae family, calendula or garden marigold is very easy to grow in Mediterranean regions, where it flowers from April to early December.
This pretty orange flower owes its name "marigold" to the Latin word "solsequier", meaning "which follows the sun", as its flowers open when the sun rises and close again when it sets.
Calendula's medicinal properties were already well known in the Middle Ages, when Saint Hildegard and Albert the Great prescribed it for insect bites and reptile bites.
In certain regions of Germany and England, marigold flowers were even used to colour butter that was too white, and as a hair lightener to turn it more blonde.
Today, marigold is widely used in cosmetics and dermocosmetics for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties (skin irritations, burns). It is widely found in baby care and hygiene products because of its mild effects.
Due to its soothing properties, Calendula Infused Oil, like St John's Wort or Arnica Infused Oil, is an essential ingredient in 'homemade' skin care products, especially for athletes.

Perfect texture and effective for the recipe I'm making
Wonderful Calendula, it's a shame it's a macerate made with sunflower oil. I can't wait for the hydrolat to be available again.
Very gentle and soothing
Perfect for baby's red bottom. Since birth, I've only used this oil. No need for chemical liniment (which contains Calendula)!
