What is the eye contour?

The eye contour is the area of skin around the eyes that is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the skin on the face. This part of the face is often the first to show signs of ageing. Facial skin is particularly vulnerable. The absence of a hydrolipidic film and sebaceous glands in this area, as well as the thinness of the skin, explain this fragility. It also lacks support fibres such as collagen and elastin, which encourages sagging skin, loss of volume and the formation of puffiness. As a result, the area around the eyes is often one of the first to be affected by skin ageing.

What causes sagging around the eyes?

Sagging skin around the eyes can be caused by a number of factors:

Natural ageing: Over time, the production of collagen and elastin decreases, leading to a loss of skin firmness. The skin is then more likely to develop wrinkles.

Sun exposure: UV rays accelerate skin ageing by damaging collagen and elastin fibres.

Repetitive movements : Blinking and facial expressions put a lot of stress on this area, encouraging the appearance of expression lines.

Dehydration: The skin around the eyes is fragile and sensitive to dehydration, which accentuates creases and wrinkles.

Environmental factors: Pollution, lack of sleep and smoking can make this area more fragile and accelerate skin ageing.

Symptoms to look out for

When the skin around the eyes begins to slacken, several signs can be observed:

  • The appearance of wrinkles and fine lines: the famous "crow's feet" at the corners of the eyes are common.

  • More noticeable bags under the eyes: Caused by a slackening of the tissues which encourages the accumulation of fluid or fat.

  • The skin around the eyes becomes duller: and dark circles may become more pronounced and coloured, accentuating the shadows under the eyes and giving a more tired appearance.

  • The texture of this area becomes finer and more fragile, increasing the risk of fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the best active ingredients for plumping the eye area?

Hyaluronic acid

A genuine anti-ageing and moisturising ally, hyaluronic acid has the ability to retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water. By combating dehydration, it helps to keep skin smooth and plump. In this way, hyaluronic acid helps to anticipate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, preserving the skin's elasticity and youthfulness.

Traditional remedies to naturally plump up the eye area

These simple tips help to revitalise the eye area, reduce signs of fatigue and promote more radiant eyes. Incorporate these practices to naturally plump up the eye area and maintain a smooth, revitalised eye contour.

  1. Don't neglect your sleep: Taking care of your eye area means first and foremost getting a good night's sleep. A lack of sleep can accelerate the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. Sleeping between 7 and 9 hours a night allows your body to rest, your skin to regenerate properly and helps maintain a toned, plumped-up eye area.

  2. Stay well hydrated: To avoid dry skin and prevent the appearance of fine dehydration lines, make sure you drink enough water throughout the day (1 L - 1.5 L) to hydrate your body from the inside out, promote blood and lymph circulation and help your body eliminate toxins.

  3. Protect your skin from the sun: Don't forget to protect your skin from the sun all year round to avoid sun damage and the appearance of fine lines, puffiness or dark circles. Wear wide-lens sunglasses to protect the area around the eyes.

  4. Don't neglect make-up removal: Skipping make-up removal helps to dry out and weaken the eye area. So remember to remove your eye make-up with products specially designed for this area of the face to prevent the appearance of dehydration lines and crow's feet.

  5. Eat a balanced diet: To look after your eye area, we recommend you eat a balanced and varied diet, including fruit and vegetables, protein and fibre. In addition, don't skimp on ingredients such as red fruit, green vegetables and nuts, which are rich in antioxidants and stimulate collagen production. Finally, be sure to limit your intake of salt, which slows down microcirculation.

Self-massage: An effective solution for the eye contour area

To boost lymphatic circulation, you can perform a self-massage. To massage the eye area, first wash your hands in cold water. Use your fingertips or a dedicated tool, such as a quartz massage mushroom. Apply light pressure from the inside of the eye area outwards, smoothing the skin slightly or tapping gently to activate blood circulation.

In addition, to reduce puffiness in the area, you can use our Caffeine & Helichrysum Eye Serum during your massage.

Precautions

It's important to choose eye care products carefully and avoid certain potentially irritating ingredients. Opt for products formulated without alcohol or fragrance, as these substances can dry out or irritate this delicate area. Also check that the moisturiser you apply is specifically designed for the eye area or has been ophthalmologically tested. These precautions ensure that the product is suitable and safe for the eyes, limiting the risk of adverse reactions or sensitisation.

Expert advice

Apply cold compresses: To awaken the eyes, use cold tea bags, spoons left in the fridge, cucumber slices, compresses soaked in cold water or Cornflower hydrosol... And place them gently under your eyes for a few minutes. The cold stimulates microcirculation and revives the tissues, leaving your eyes looking fresh and awake.

At what age should I start applying an eye serum?

From the age of 25, it is advisable to incorporate an anti-ageing serum into your routine. As the skin around the eyes and lips is thinner, they show signs of ageing more quickly.

How do I apply eye contour care correctly?

Apply a small amount of eye contour serum or cream. Apply the product to the bony area under both eyes using your ring finger and lightly tapping from the inside to the outside of the eye. This method stimulates circulation and allows the product to penetrate better without irritating the skin.

Can you use your face care product around the eyes?

It is possible to use a facial care product around the eyes, as long as it is specifically formulated for this area or has been ophthalmologically tested. Some facial care products may be too rich or contain ingredients that are not suitable for the eye area.
