Curly hair routine: why we should all get on board?
Many of us 'curlies' feel at a loss when it comes to the demands of our hair. Without realising it, we sometimes adopt maintenance and styling habits that are detrimental to our hair texture. In the long run, this can lead to breakage or further hair loss.
The most important thing when developing your hair routine for curly hair is to respect its nature. A 'basic' routine probably won't be enough to help you gain length and shine. Your challenge is to think beyond simply preventing breakage.
The secret lies in two words: strategy and consistency. To reap the rewards of your curly hair routine, you need to pay attention not only to the products you choose, but also to the order in which you apply them. Also remember to adapt to your hair's occasional needs.
Curly hair: characteristics and needs
For curly, wavy, afro or textured hair: every day is a hair adventure. Curls are beautiful, but they also have their own unique needs and characteristics that require special attention. Understanding the nature of your curls is the first step to adopting a hair routine that help them look their best.
Curly hair is characterised by its spiral or spring-like structure, the result of a natural curvature of the hair follicles. This particular shape makes curly hair more fragile and prone to dryness than other hair types. In fact, the curvature of curls can hinder the natural distribution of sebaceous oils along the hair shaft, often making it drier and more prone to frizz.
Compared to straight or slightly wavy hair, curly hair tends to be thicker and have a rougher texture. This texture can vary considerably from person to person, from soft, wavy curls to tight, bouncy curls. This diversity makes each head of curls unique and requires an individual approach to hair care.
Curls also have a distinct chemical composition. Their outer cuticle is often more raised than straight hair, which can lead to moisture loss and increased sensitivity to external damage such as heat and chemicals found in traditional hair products.
However, with the right care and routine, curly hair can regain and maintain its beauty over the long term.
The essentials for looking after my curls and waves
Choose all the products in your curly hair routine carefully. As far as possible, avoid controversial ingredients such as sulphates and silicones.
Make sure you moisturise your hair morning and night.Moisturising is as important for your scalp as it is for your lengths.
Balance your intake of moisturisers and proteins. Too little or too much of either is detrimental to the beauty of your curly hair.
Use protective styles to protect your hair from environmental damage and limit breakage.
Go easy on styling: limit high-temperature blow-drying and chemical products (straightening, unnatural colouring, etc.).
And of course (and this is undoubtedly the most important thing), adopt a healthy lifestyle. Drink enough water and make sure you eat a balanced diet (vitamin B, omega-3, proteins, etc.).
Our routine for preserving your curls when shampooing

1. Gentle shampoo: Start by using our Neutral Shampoo Base. Apply a small amount to your scalp and massage gently to cleanse without drying out your curls. Rinse with warm water to preserve moisture.

2. Nourishing hair mask: once a week, apply the Neutral Base Hair Mask to your lengths after shampooing. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes to deeply moisturise and repair damaged curls. Rinse thoroughly.

3. Rinse with organic pomegranate vinegar: After rinsing the mask, dilute one part organic pomegranate vinegar with two parts water and apply this mixture to your hair to balance the pH and add shine. Do not rinse, leave to dry in the open air.

4. Gentle drying: Use our organic cotton towel to gently spin your hair without rubbing it. This prevents frizz and preserves the shape of your curls.

5. Hydration and definition: On damp hair, apply Beautiful Curls Hyaluronic Acid and Linseed Gel. This gel helps define and maintain your curls while moisturising them.

How can I adapt my hair routine to my curl type?
I have curly, fine hair
Finding the right routine for fine, curly hair isn't always easy. The main risk is weighing your hair down with products that are too rich. The result is curls that look greasy and lack bounce. Our experts recommend turning to light textures. For example, opt for styling gels and water-based leave-in sprays rather than creams and butters. And in all cases, be sparing with the dosage.
I have thick, curly hair
Thick, curly hair is blessed with beautiful volume. However, it can look like a fuzzy mass if you don't give it the care it needs. When developing your hair routine for curly hair, remember to include detangling and conditioning. Thick, curly hair is blessed with beautiful volume. However, it can look like a fuzzy mass if you don't give it the care it needs. When developing your curly hair routine, remember to include detangling and styling products. Feel free to plop your hair too. This drying technique involves leaving your wet hair for a few hours under a cotton turban.
I have curly, dry hair
Textured hair is naturally drier than straight hair. The shape of the curl hinders the flow of sebum from the root to the tip, unlike straight hair. You should therefore treat your curly hair as if it were dry. If dryness persists despite all our advice, look into the porosity of your hair. Your hair may be dry because it's very porous. This makes it harder for your hair to retain moisture, which evaporates quickly.
I'm a man with wavy hair
A man's curly hair routine is identical to that of a woman. The only difference is in the choice of textures and formulas if you have short hair. Avoid oils or butters that are too heavy, which could cause your roots to oil up more quickly. If you have afro hair, be aware that it is thicker than women's hair. Take this into account when figuring out your hair care routine and refer to the advice above.

Curl-defining hyaluronic acid and linseed gel
A combination of Hyaluronic Acid, Linseed, Chia Seed and organic Aloe Vera, this curl-defining hair gel defines and sets curls while providing shine and protection. Its light, non-greasy texture, with no hardening effect, tames frizz and makes styling easier, leaving curls beautiful and bouncy. Its certified organic formula, concentrated in active ingredients, is a real treatment that keeps hair moisturised and creates an anti-humidity barrier around the hair fibre for long-lasting curl hold.
