What is vegan collagen?

An alternative to animal collagen

To begin with, you need to know that collagen does not exist in the plant world.

Collagen protein is found only in animals. It is abundantly present in the human body, in our connective tissues (e.g. skin, muscles, tendons). Most collagens on the market come from animals (marine collagen or bovine collagen). So which collagen should you choose if you're vegan? What alternative to collagen should you choose if you don't want to eat animal products? Because our Aroma-Zone teams wanted a vegan serum formula that was suitable for everyone, we turned to an active ingredient of plant origin, a genuine vegan alternative to collagen of animal origin. This complex is obtained from plant proteins and yeast biofermentations.

An active ingredient that mimics human collagen

Our vegan collagen active ingredient is made up of a combination of amino acids and peptides of natural, non-animal origin, biomimetic of natural human collagen. This means that this vegan collagen mimics the composition of human collagen naturally present in our epidermis.

In the human body, natural collagen is a fibrous protein made up of three polypeptide chains. These peptide chains are made up of very specific combinations of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. The vegan collagen we have selected is made up of peptides reproducing the same amino acid sequences as the collagen naturally present in our skin, with assemblies such as Proline-Glutamine-Glycine, Proline-Lysine-Glycine, and Proline-Glutamic Acid-Glycine.

A low molecular weight to deeply regenerate the skin

The combination of vegan collagen in the form of peptides and amino acids can be compared to collagen fragments that are easily assimilated by the skin. Unlike whole collagen protein, which is too large to pass through the skin barrier, these fragments will penetrate all the layers of the epidermis, even the deepest, to deliver their firming, redensifying and anti-ageing action.

What are the benefits of our Vegan Collagen Serum?

A complete anti-ageing serum

Proven effectiveness

Concentrated with 1.5% vegan collagen, this serum penetrates to the deepest layers of the epidermis thanks to its combination of plant-based amino acids and 100% natural peptides produced by biofermentation. 1.5% Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate offers a versatile anti-ageing action with proven effectiveness:

  • Firms, tones and redensifies the skin

  • Fights skin slackening and loss of firmness

  • Improves skin elasticity

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improves skin hydration

  • Improves the skin's barrier function by strengthening the structure of extracellular lipids (reinforces the skin's lipidic film) for redensified, restructured, suppler and softer skin

  • Improves the skin's protection against external damage

  • Promotes skin repair and stimulates the spread of keratinocytes (skin cells) for regenerated skin

Why our Vegan Collagen Serum?

Our Aroma-Zone Research & Development teams have chosen a vegan combination to make the 1.5% Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate accessible to everyone (vegan and non-vegan).

This vegan serum offers an innovative alternative to collagen of animal origin, thanks to a combination of amino acids of plant origin and peptides of 100% natural origin derived from yeast biofermentations. This biomimetic complex reproduces the amino acid sequences of human collagen.

The vegan collagen fragments in our serum pass through the skin barrier and penetrate all the layers of the epidermis, even the deepest, thanks to their low molecular weight.

Why choose a vegan collagen serum?

From the age of 25, our bodies begin to synthesise collagen less effectively and our collagen reserves gradually diminish. In the skin, this loss of collagen manifests itself in a loss of density, a more fragile epidermis, sagging skin and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen food supplements help to compensate for this loss of native collagen, while collagen cosmetics act on the skin to help minimise the signs of ageing and promote the skin's regeneration mechanisms.

Our Vegan Collagen Serum is ideal for mature skin, skin prone to sagging and dehydrated skin. It's also a great preventive option for preserving the skin's youthful appearance, avoiding premature ageing and preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Ideal for targeting the first signs of ageing or the appearance of established wrinkles and loss of firmness, our collagen serum is a complete anti-ageing treatment that is very convenient to use. It is easy to incorporate into a natural skincare routine, morning and night, before your day or night skincare product (cream or oil).

Tip

You can increase the effects of the Vegan Collagen Serum by applying a Plant Collagen Moisturising Cream or the Aroma-Zone Organic Age-defying Cream enriched with an anti-ageing active ingredient such as co-enzyme Q10, the Age-Defying Algo'boost active ingredient or the Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C active ingredient.

What is the difference between plant collagen and marine collagen?

Marine collagen is a collagen of animal origin, derived from the cartilage of fish and shellfish. This collagen is found in our Marine Collagen Powder food supplement, which comes from Friends of the Sea certified aquaculture, a label guaranteeing sustainable aquaculture.

This marine collagen food supplement comes in the form of a neutral-tasting powder that is easy to mix into drinks like coffee or tea.

We have chosen 100% pure and natural marine collagen, with no additives or added flavourings. This premium quality marine collagen is made up of low molecular weight peptides (2000 Da) for optimum absorption by the intestinal mucosa.

Marine collagen is a food supplement for all those who prefer to take a course of collagen orally and want to maintain beautiful skin, or as a supplement if you are an athlete.

Vegan collagen is an alternative to animal collagen, for a powerful active ingredient that is suitable for everyone (vegan or not). Vegan collagen is found in our Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate, with its firming, redensifying and repairing effects.

So vegan or marine collagen? How do you choose? It all depends on your consumption choices and your preferred methods of use.

Are you vegan? Opt for our Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate to give your skin a powerful anti-ageing treatment. At the same time, you can take a course of vitamin C, an essential co-factor in the production of our native collagen.

Not a vegan? You can combine our Marine Collagen Food Supplement with our Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate to give your skin an intense rejuvenating treatment.

What's the difference between our hyaluronic acid serum and others?

Hyaluronic Acid Serum Concentrate is suitable for all skin types, providing long-lasting moisturising effects and enhanced plumping action to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Used as a preventive treatment, it helps counteract the appearance of wrinkles.

1.5% Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate has firming and redensifying effects to combat skin sagging and improve skin elasticity while strengthening the skin's structure.

You can combine the two serums by first applying the 1.5% Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate to clean skin, followed by the 3.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum Concentrate to boost the effectiveness of the moisturising, plumping, anti-wrinkle and firming effects.

What's the difference between our retinal serum and others?

These two serums have a complementary effect on the skin's youthful appearance. Both have overall anti-ageing effects and have firming and anti-wrinkle properties.

1.5% Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate targets the loss of native collagen from natural ageing and external factors (e.g. pollution, smoking, excess sugar, stress, lack of sleep). It targets skin density specifically. This serum is ideal for mature and dehydrated skin.

Optimised Retinal Serum helps to protect the retinoic acid naturally present in our skin and has an anti-blemish, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and smoothing action on skin texture. This serum is ideal for mature skin, but also for dull skin and skin prone to rosacea, redness and blemishes.

To enjoy the complementary effects of these two serums, you can use the Vegan Collagen Serum Concentrate in the morning and apply the Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate in the evening.

Feel free to try out the serum or combination of serums that best suits your skin. To find out more about the possible combinations of our serums, go to the article Facial serums: how to combine and use them

Inside & out treatment course: Marine Collagen Powder Food Supplement and Plant Collagen Serum Concentrate

Ideally, you should follow this course of treatment for at least 2 to 4 months. For our Aroma-Zone Marine Collagen Powder food supplement, the recommended daily dose is 2.5 g to 10 g of collagen powder per day, to be diluted in a drink such as a fruit or vegetable juice, a hot drink, or a smoothie. This daily intake of collagen can be varied according to your needs:

  • 2.5 g per day for a maintenance treatment

  • 5 g a day for beautiful skin or for those who do regular sport

  • 10 g a day for an intensive course of treatment for mature or slack skin, or for athletes whose sport involves intensive physical exertion

Precautions

Remember that only adults can follow a course of collagen, and it should be part of a healthy lifestyle and a varied diet. A course of collagen is not recommended if you are suffering from kidney failure. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, always ask your doctor for advice. Keep collagen powder out of reach of children, and away from moisture and direct sunlight in a cool, dry place for best preservation.
