Marjoram Essential Oil

The all-round solution: 2-in-1 oil – marjoram essential oil has a comprehensive effect on the causes of snoring. It clears the airways and eases stress, anxiety, and nervousness, which can cause snoring.

As an added bonus: Marjoram essential oil helps to relax the muscles of the respiratory system, thereby promoting easier breathing.

Precautions: Not recommended during pregnancy, whilst breastfeeding, or for children under 6 years of age. Always use diluted on the skin. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil

For respiratory health: Keep this on hand if your snoring is caused by blocked airways. A decongestant and powerful expectorant, eucalyptus radiata essential oil helps clear the respiratory tract by thinning lung secretions and clearing excess mucus, which helps clear the bronchi.

As an added bonus: The freshness of Eucalyptus radiata essential oil helps you breathe with ease.

Precautions: Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for children under 6 years of age. Not recommended for people with asthma and/or epilepsy due to its high 1,8-cineole content (particularly when inhaled or diffused). Keep out of reach of children. Use primarily on the skin or via diffusion/inhalation. Possible interactions with medication (due to its 1,8-cineole content, which has an inducing effect on certain enzymes); do not take orally without medical advice whilst undergoing medical treatment. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Always use diluted.

Scots Pine Essential Oil

The cleansing oil: with a powerful scent of ‘fresh sawdust’, Scots pine essential oil loosens bronchial secretions, helps expel them, and supports respiratory health. A key remedy for the respiratory system, it reduces inflammation of the respiratory mucous membranes.

As an added bonus: With cortisone-like and blood-pressure-raising properties, Scots pine essential oil combats the deep-seated fatigue that often leads to periods of snoring.

Precautions: Do not use on pregnant or breastfeeding women, or on children under 6 years of age. Not recommended for those with a history of hormone-dependent conditions. Always use diluted. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Anti-inflammatory: Rich in menthol, peppermint essential oil has a powerful, fresh, minty scent that instantly clears the nose and makes breathing easier. As an anti-inflammatory, it helps reduce swelling of the mucous membranes in the respiratory tract (throat and nose), allowing you to breathe easily without the slightest snoring.

As an added bonus: Peppermint essential oil is also useful for thinning mucus and promoting its clearance.

Precautions: Do not use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in children under 6 years of age. May stimulate ovarian function and, therefore, oestrogen levels. Not recommended in cases of oestrogen-dependent conditions: mastosis, endometriosis, fibroids or oestrogen-dependent cancer (breast, ovary, endometrium). At high doses, it may cause skin irritation. For internal use only in limited doses and for short periods, on the advice of a therapist. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Always use in diluted form.

Bergamot Essential Oil

The Soother: With its powerful calming effect, bergamot essential oil helps anxious and stressed individuals who snore. It lowers blood pressure, restores emotional balance and promotes restful sleep. As an antispasmodic, it relaxes the muscles, reduces spasms and promotes relaxation for a peaceful, snore-free night’s sleep.

As an added bonus: With its purifying and antiseptic properties, bergamot essential oil is perfect for freshening the air and helping you drift off to sleep in complete tranquillity.

Precautions: Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for children under 6 years of age. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children. If using orally, seek advice from a healthcare professional if you have a hormone-dependent condition or a family history of such conditions, or if you have kidney failure.

Why Do People Snore?

When we fall asleep, all the muscles in the body relax, and the tongue and throat tissues slacken. In some cases, these tissues restrict airflow, causing vibrations with every breath in and out. This is what we call snoring.

Normally, snoring is perfectly normal, but it can be exacerbated by several factors:

  • Nasal congestion (a cold, allergic rhinitis) or the throat (bronchitis, productive cough)

  • Obesity or being overweight, which leads to a narrowing of the airways in the throat

  • Pregnancy (due to weight gain)

  • Stress, anxiety, worry, severe fatigue

  • Enlarged tonsils obstructing the airways

  • Tobacco: Smoke irritates the mucous membranes, causing swelling and reducing the volume of the airways

  • Tissue laxity with age

How to Stop Snoring Naturally

Adopting a healthy lifestyle is the quickest and easiest solution:

  • Avoid meals that are too heavy and large, particularly in the evening, to prevent the throat muscles from relaxing excessively

  • Make sure the temperature in your bedroom is 18°C and air it out every day

  • Sleep on your side, as the muscles and tissues relax at night; this will prevent them from falling back into your throat and blocking your airways

  • Clear your nose using our first remedy (see above) with essential oils!
