Find out more

Although it is often referred to as "blue algae", "blue-green algae" or "microalgae", spirulina is in fact a cyanobacterium of the Arthrospira genus, i.e. a single-celled micro-organism responsible for photosynthesis. On a microscopic scale, it appears as spiral filaments, which inspired both its common name, spirulina, and its botanical name, Arthrospira platensis. Spirulina owes its intense blue-green colour to its high phycocyanin content, a blue pigment with antioxidant properties, and chlorophyll, a green pigment essential for photosynthesis.

Clean label policy and composition transparency

No additives, no magnesium stearate, no titanium dioxide, no nanoparticles. We avoid unnecessary ingredients in our formulas, including fillers, carriers, dyes, preservatives, coating agents and mould release agents. There are no unnecessary additives, our ingredient lists are comprehensive and transparent.

Prioritising effectiveness

The ingredients used in our food supplements have been selected for their recognisable properties and concentration of active ingredients. We use optimum doses for safe and effective use. We favour active ingredients with high bioavailability (which indicates the proportion of active compounds available to produce noticeable reactions) for an effective dose. We also choose natural and certified organic ingredients as much as possible.

Controlled sourcing and traceability

All the raw materials used in our food supplements are rigorously selected for their quality, concentration of active ingredients, microbiological purity and absence of contaminants. Each batch is checked on receipt against strict specifications.

Manufactured in a specialised HACCP- and ISO 22000-certified laboratory

We use the minimum packaging required, and all of it is recyclable. Dispose of in the appropriate recycling sorting bins.

Frequently asked questions

Growing spirulina: how does it work?

Spirulina is a micro-algae grown mainly in freshwater ponds, where it thrives in a warm, sunny climate. In organic farming, as with our Organic French Spirulina, it is grown without pesticides or chemicals. This method is based on a supply of natural nutrients and rigorous water quality management. The ponds are monitored to maintain the ideal conditions (pH, temperature, oxygenation) for healthy, controlled growth. After harvesting, the spirulina is filtered, gently dried at a low temperature to preserve its nutrients, then compressed into tablets.

How do I start a course of spirulina?

To begin a course of spirulina, we advise starting with the lowest dose: 3 tablets a day for a few days, especially if you are not used to consuming spirulina. If you suddenly take a large dose, it can cause minor digestive discomfort for some people. After a few days, if you wish, you can gradually increase the dose up to 6 tablets a day. We recommend the following programme:

  • 1st week: 3 tablets a day

  • 2nd week: 4 tablets a day

  • 3rd week: 5 tablets a day

  • Following weeks: 6 to 10 tablets a day, depending on your needs

What is the recommended dosage of spirulina?

The recommended dose is 3 to 10 500 mg of spirulina tablets a day. For most people, a dose of 4 to 6 tablets a day is ideal. If you have a particularly great need, it is possible to increase the dose up to 10 tablets a day. For example, as a supplement during intensive sports or if you are iron-deficient. But even so, you should increase the dose gradually, as explained above.

When should I take spirulina?

Spirulina can be taken at any time of the day, depending on your habits. But preferably take it with a meal to ensure its nutrients are properly absorbed. For doses of 4 to 10 tablets a day, we advise spreading them out over the day. For example, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. To ensure optimal effectiveness, consistency is important when taking food supplements. We advise establishing a routine where you take your spirulina at the same time every day.

How long does a course of spirulina last?

For a boost, if you are experiencing temporary tiredness or a drop in immunity, we recommend taking a spirulina course for at least one month. Spirulina can also be taken for longer periods, or even on a long-term basis, depending on your individual needs, particularly if you are a vegetarian, vegan, athlete, elderly or recovering from illness.

Is it good to take spirulina every day?

Yes, spirulina can be consumed on a permanent basis over a long period of time, particularly if you have specific needs, such as following a vegan diet or if you're a sportsperson.

Can spirulina be taken during pregnancy?

Yes, spirulina can be taken during pregnancy and when breastfeeding, but always check with your doctor first.

What are the benefits of spirulina for sportspeople?

Spirulina improves stamina and recovery, thanks to its high protein and antioxidant content. It also promotes good muscular performance.

Is spirulina suitable for vegetarian diets?

Yes, spirulina is suitable for vegetarian diets because it is not made from animal sources. However, although it is rich in protein, the amount provided by the recommended daily dose alone does not make up for the protein intake of a balanced diet. It can supplement your nutritional intake if you are a vegetarian, but should not be considered as the sole source of protein in this type of diet.
