Retinol: the before-and-after effect
Firming, brightening, anti-ageing, blemish-combating. There is a lot of buzz around retinol because of its ability to rapidly improve the skin's appearance. How long does it take to see the effects of retinol on the skin? Is retinol suitable for sensitive skin? How do you use it in your skincare routine and with other active ingredients? Our expert answers all your questions!

What is retinol?
Retinol is one of the forms of vitamin A, which also exists in our bodies in the form of retinal (or retinaldehyde) and retinoic acid, the active form that binds to cell receptors.
When it is used for skin care products, it must be converted into retinal, and then into retinoic acid, in order for it to work actively. To sum up retinol's way of working, it stimulates skin cells to return to optimal function, like healthier and/or younger cells.
When should I apply retinol to my skin?
All skin types, even sensitive skin, will benefit from all the goodness of retinol with our Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate. This treatment is particularly suitable for mature skin, skin affected by premature ageing, acne-prone skin, skin prone to redness and rosacea, or skin that needs a spot-combating solution.
Before/after retinol: what effects will it have on my skin?
Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate is effective on the skin in multiple ways and visibly improves the epidermis over time:
Reduces wrinkles and fine lines
Helps prevent loss of firmness and sagging skin
Evens the complexion, smoothes skin texture and tightens pores
Reduces and prevents the appearance of pigmentation spots
Purifies oily skin prone to blemishes
Brightens the complexion
Soothes redness
I have sensitive skin: is retinol suitable for me?
My skin is sensitive, prone to redness and fragile. Can I use retinol? Our answer is yes, you can use retinal! In our Serum Concentrate, we've chosen retinal rather than retinol, for an effective yet gentler formula. Retinal provides a more effective and controlled release of retinoic acid, while eliminating the side effects and undesirable effects of retinol, such as redness, irritation and phototoxicity.
How long does retinol take to work on my skin?
Skin cells regenerate in cycles of 3 to 4 weeks, usually 28 days. Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate was laboratory-tested under dermatological supervision by a panel of 40 people over a 28-day period. These people had brown spots, mature skin and blemishes, including 6 men and 34 women, 20 of whom had sensitive skin. The proven results after 28 days of use show:
95% reduction in deep wrinkles
98% firmer skin
93% unclogged pores
100% more radiant skin
Is it possible to use Hyaluronic acid and Retinol together?
The answer is yes! You can combine retinol and hyaluronic acid for an overall beautiful skin action. Our advice: apply our Hyaluronic acid serum concentrate in the morning and Optimised retinal serum concentrate in the evening, for hydrated, plumper, firmer skin with a tighter texture.
Does retinol work on acne?
Retinal has anti-bacterial effects on the skin, reducing the spread of bacteria, especially Propionibacterium acnes, which is responsible for inflammation, acne pimples and blackheads. It is therefore a highly effective active ingredient for preventing, reducing and combating acne. Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate helps to reduce blemishes, unclog pores and refine skin texture.
What precautions should be taken when applying retinol?
When using Optimised Retinal Serum Concentrate, we recommend a single application per day, in the evening only. This treatment is not photosensitising and does not require sun protection the following day, except when exposed to the sun.
