Italian Helichrysum essential oil: What Effect Does It Have on the Skin?

Italian Helichrysum essential oil, rich in active compounds such as italidiones, is an exceptional solution for promoting skin tone and revitalisation. Particularly renowned for its effect on skin marks, it aids the reabsorption of bruises and haematomas, whilst minimising the appearance of discomfort following an impact.

A true ally in anti-ageing routines, it helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and has a firming effect thanks to its astringent properties. By promoting smooth and rapid skin repair, it is also ideal for soothing sensitive skin by reducing diffuse redness and decongesting the tissues.

Italian Helichrysum essential oil: Scientifically Proven Efficiency

A study* conducted in the field of reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery demonstrated the significant benefits of combining Italian Helichrysum essential oil with rosehip vegetable oil in this discipline during the post-operative period. Indeed, it was observed that, among those participating in this protocol, the healing process was simpler, faster and well tolerated, with no recurrence of the condition. Patient satisfaction rates were very high.

Skin Tolerance

A Note from Adeline Nalin, Head Pharmacist and Toxicologist at Aroma-Zone

“Organic Corsican Italian Helichrysum essential oil is particularly prized for its skin benefits, including its astringent and soothing properties. It is well tolerated by the skin when used at a maximum concentration of 0.5% in cosmetic formulations, such as targeted skincare products.

Like all essential oils, it naturally contains allergenic compounds (limonene, linalool, geraniol). As a precaution, it is recommended that you carry out a skin test using the preparation made with the essential oil, which has been diluted beforehand, on the inside of your elbow, 48 hours before use. Its use is not recommended on very sensitive skin or skin prone to atopic conditions. It is also not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under the age of 6, or people with epilepsy.”

A Safe Ingredient for your Health

A Note from Our Aroma-Zone Toxicologist

“We apply a strict safety protocol to all our essential oils, based on the chromatograms specific to each batch.

Although the risk of skin sensitisation cannot be entirely ruled out, it is managed using a methodology recognised within the perfumery industry: Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA). This approach enables us to determine maximum usage concentrations that guarantee a level of risk considered negligible.

Finally, precautions for use are provided on all our essential oils. These advise against their use by the most sensitive groups and specify the appropriate storage conditions to prevent any oxidation.”

A Note from the Phytotherapist

“A knock or a bump? Think of Helichrysum to stop a bruise from forming! Having seen it work first-hand on several occasions, this essential oil is miraculous. For bruises, dilute 3 drops in a tablespoon of arnica oil (oily macerate) and apply to a compress at night. Watch as the purple-black bruise turns greenish-yellow very quickly. The results are astonishing.

Nicknamed ‘the immortelle’, it’s a star among anti-ageing skincare oils. Here is my personal recipe: dilute 5 drops of Helichrysum essential oil, 5 drops of Cistus ladaniferus essential oil and 5 drops of Rose Geranium essential oil in a base of 20 ml of rosehip oil and 30 ml of hazelnut oil.

Please check the precautions for use for each essential oil before use.”
