Aroma-Zone Fine Lavender essential oil

CALMING RESTORATIVE

It should not be confused with spike lavender and lavandin, two other closely related essential oils that are highly valued in aromatherapy, but which have a different molecular composition and therefore distinct properties, uses and scents. The olfactory profile of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil is the most delicate and floral, with fruity notes, somewhat reminiscent of tonka bean.

Fine lavender essential oil: What Effect Does It Have on the Skin?

Fine lavender essential oil is a valuable ally for the skin thanks to its regenerating and restorative properties. It acts as a natural solution to soothe areas of discomfort and promote daily skin wellbeing.

Particularly prized for its gentle action, it is traditionally used to alleviate minor skin irritations, thereby helping to soothe ‘minor niggles’. To enjoy its benefits safely, this essential oil must always be diluted in a vegetable oil or incorporated into your cosmetic preparations, in accordance with the recommended guidelines for using essential oils.

Fine lavender essential oil: Scientifically Proven Efficiency

A study* was carried out in South Korea on 64 women who were stressed and suffering from itching. A blend of essential oils of fine lavender, Roman chamomile and sandalwood was applied to half of them as part of a relaxing massage. The blend used for the control group contained only sandalwood. A significant difference was observed among the participants receiving the full treatment, with relief from itching and a reduction in stress levels.

Skin Tolerance

A Note from Adeline Nalin, Head Pharmacist and Toxicologist at Aroma-Zone

“Organic Haute Provence AOP fine lavender essential oil has excellent soothing properties and is well tolerated by the skin when used at a maximum concentration of 1 per cent in cosmetic preparations, such as massage oils. Like all essential oils, it naturally contains allergenic compounds.

Due to possible individual sensitivities, caution is required when using it: it is recommended to carry out a preliminary skin test in the crook of the elbow using the preparation (the essential oil already diluted in a vegetable oil, never pure essential oil), 48 hours before any application. Its use is not recommended for very sensitive skin or skin prone to atopic conditions. It is also not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for children under the age of 6.”

A Safe Ingredient for your Health

A Note from Our Aroma-Zone Toxicologist

“A rigorous safety protocol is applied to all our essential oils, taking into account the chromatograms specific to each batch.

Although the risk of skin sensitisation cannot be entirely ruled out, it is managed through the application of a methodology recognised within the perfumery industry, based on a quantitative risk assessment (QRA). This approach enables us to define maximum usage concentrations aimed at achieving a negligible level of risk.

Finally, precautions for use are provided on all our essential oils: these advise against their use by the most sensitive groups and also specify the appropriate storage conditions to prevent any oxidation.”

A Note from the Phytotherapist

“Fine lavender essential oil is an absolute must-have! My toiletries bag would feel incomplete if I were to leave it out.

When inhaled, it soothes moments of stress and anxiety, promotes a more restful sleep and, as an added bonus, repels mosquitoes. Applied to the inside of the wrist and the solar plexus, it relieves nervous tension. Derived from the Latin word ‘lavare’, it cleanses the wounds of both body and soul and restores blue skies to our minds when the clouds of our worries obscure them.”

FAQ

What are the benefits of fine lavender essential oil?

Fine lavender essential oil is particularly prized for its soothing, restorative and purifying properties. Very well tolerated by sensitive skin, it helps to calm redness, irritation and feelings of skin discomfort. It is also recognised for its healing and regenerative properties, making it an ally for skin marked by minor imperfections, scars or stretch marks. Thanks to its purifying properties, it is also suitable for slightly oily skin prone to spots.

Beyond skincare, its gentle fragrance, with its herbal and powdery notes, is renowned for its deeply calming effect on the central nervous system. Inhaling fine lavender essential oil is therefore said to promote calm and relaxation.

How can fine lavender essential oil be used to aid sleep?

Fine lavender essential oil can be used to promote relaxation before bedtime. Applying a face cream enriched with fine lavender essential oil or diluted in a vegetable oil in the evening envelops the skin in a gentle scent, conducive to relaxation and a peaceful night’s sleep. Its fragrance is said to help calm moments of stress and anxiety and promote a more restful sleep.

Can pure fine lavender essential oil be used from time to time?

No, fine lavender essential oil must never be used undiluted on the skin, as dilution is always essential. Even for localised, occasional use aimed at relieving or alleviating a minor discomfort such as a spot or a bite, it must first be mixed with a vegetable oil.

Furthermore, for irritated skin or more extensive use, it is even more advisable to dilute it in a vegetable oil or a neutral base in order to soothe itching, redness and skin discomfort. It is also not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for children under the age of 6.
