“Vitamin B12, or cyanocobalamin, is an essential vitamin for the human body, with recommended daily intakes of approximately 2 to 4 µg per day for adults (EFSA). It is a large molecule (molecular weight > 1,000 Da), which significantly limits its ability to cross the skin barrier and results in negligible percutaneous penetration.
In cosmetic products, Vitamin B12 is used at very low concentrations and exhibits excellent skin tolerance at these levels. Available data indicate that it is neither irritating nor toxic to the skin under normal conditions of use.
Cases of hypersensitivity or allergy have been reported in the scientific literature, primarily in medical contexts (parenteral administration, high doses) or following exposure to concentrations far higher than those found in cosmetics. These adverse effects are not considered relevant for standard topical cosmetic use.
A slight, temporary pinkish discoloration of the skin may occasionally be observed after application. This effect is reversible, has no clinical consequences, and disappears spontaneously.”
