Where does propolis come from?

Propolis is a unique natural product produced by bees. It is the result of synergy between flora and fauna. Bees collect exudates from certain plants, specific resins produced to protect buds or bark damaged by micro-organisms and atmospheric agents to make Propolis, with the addition of enzymes produced by their saliva glands.

Why do bees produce propolis?

To understand the benefits of bees, we need to know more about where they live: the beehive. This is a densely populated place, with a humidity level of 90% and an internal temperature of around 37°C, in other words, the perfect conditions for all kinds of microbes and pathogens to develop! Despite these highly unfavourable conditions, the hive is one of the most sterile environments in nature. This is due to the presence of propolis and its ability to create an 'aseptic' environment, capable of preserving the health of its inhabitants, including the most sensitive and defenceless, such as larvae.

What is propolis used for?

Propolis acts as a natural shield to protect the hive from external aggression, not only through its powerful antimicrobial, purifying and antioxidant effects, but also by acting as a sealant that insulates the hive's openings to the outside world and strengthens it. Propolis plays a similar role in the hive to the human immune system!

Why use Propolis?

The benefits of propolis have been known to mankind since ancient times. The Egyptians used it to preserve organs during the mummification process. The Greeks were the first to colonise bees and became the first beekeepers. Hippocrates used them for various ailments. In Arab culture, bees have always been recognised as sacred insects.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of Propolis does this product contain?

This concentrated propolis extract cannot be compared with conventional propolis solutions, which contain a certain percentage of raw propolis resin diluted in alcohol or another carrier. In these standard products, the insoluble nature of propolis resin severely limits the quantity of propolis in alcohol-free products. Alcoholic products contain higher levels of propolis, but when diluted in a glass of water, an insoluble veil precipitates due to the resinous component of propolis. Aroma-Zone organic propolis extract has been obtained using a gentle extraction process based on water and plant-based alcohol, which extracts the full spectrum of the active compounds of propolis, while leaving out inactive resins. After removing the alcohol and placing on an organic vegetable glycerine base, we obtain an extract concentrated in active polyphenols (12 mg/ml), which is alcohol-free and water-soluble.

How long does a propolis extract food supplement treatment last?

Ideally, Propolis should be taken as a course of treatment when the seasons change, particularly as winter approaches. It can also be used at any time of year, either as a one-off treatment for a few days or as a 2-3 week course of treatment. Consumption for more than 3 consecutive weeks is not recommended, to prevent the risk of developing allergies.

When should I take the food supplement Propolis extract?

You can take it at any time of day, either orally or on a spoon, or diluted in a glass of water, or mixed with honey.

Can the propolis extract food supplement be taken during pregnancy?

No, Propolis is not recommended during pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

Can children use the propolis extract food supplement?

Children aged 6 and over can take this food supplement subject to medical advice.

What are the contraindications to using propolis extract?

It is preferable for people with an allergic predisposition, particularly to pollen or products from the hive, to avoid consuming this product.
