Learn more

Astragalus (Astragalus Membranaceus), a member of the Fabaceae family, is a plant that has always been used in traditional Chinese medicine. It grows mainly in East Asia (China, Mongolia, Korea, etc.), but also in Central Asia, particularly India. It is particularly fond of sandy riverbanks and sunny mountainsides. It is a perennial plant that can grow up to 1.50 m high, with slender branches, many small oval leaves and violet flowers.

It has a large root, which can be up to 50 cm long.

The Chinese call it "Huang Qi", which translates as "yellow guide", referring to the colour of its roots and the tonic properties it is believed to have in traditional Chinese medicine. Astragale is considered an adaptogen in Chinese tradition. Some scientific studies suggest that adaptogenic plants increase the body's resistance to all kinds of stress factors, and boost overall vitality.
