How can I look after my baby's skin naturally?

Baby's sensitive skin needs simple, effective and extremely gentle care. Very fine and permeable, the pH of a toddler's skin is alkaline at birth, and gradually becomes acidic after a few months. So it's important to take the utmost care of it with specially adapted natural products. The products we recommend below have been dermatologically tested, and the recipes we suggest are guaranteed free from allergens and synthetic fragrances, so there's no risk to your baby's delicate skin!

Simple, effective tips for looking after baby's fragile skin

Tip 1

To cleanse baby's skin of impurities, choose a gentle soap that respects your child's skin. For babies, there's nothing like our Donkey Milk Soap enriched with nourishing and softening plant oils and butters. For older children (aged 3 and over), opt for our Neutral Cleansing Base, or use our Gentle Cleansing Cream for nourished, moisturised skin, even in the shower!

Tip No. 2

After a bath or shower, coat baby's dry skin well with a rich, moisturising skincare product to intensify the benefits of the bath. Moisturise your children's skin with ultra-gentle products adapted to their sensitive, delicate skin. Choose a fragrance-free plant-based milk with Sweet Almond oil for long-lasting hydration for up to 6 hours, ideal for protecting the fragile skin of toddlers from discomfort and tightness.

Tip no. 3

Share a unique moment together, develop attachment bonds and help your baby to become aware of their body with a soothing massage. Choose oily, nourishing products that are ideal for forming a dermo-protective film and keeping your children's skin hydrated. Choose an Intense Nourishing Massage Oil with Sweet Almond, Olive or Calendula oils, or our Neutral Care & Massage Oil with nourishing and softening plant oils, perfectly suited to the whole family.

Tip 4

Dehydration, sun and cold are the main factors responsible for dry, irritated skin. In summer, protect your baby's and your children's skin from the sun's rays with light clothing and sun protection adapted to their delicate skin. In winter, apply cream to your child's face with a rich skincare product before they go out. And don't forget scarves to protect their face from the cold and wind. Make sure your child drinks enough water throughout the day to keep their body and skin optimally hydrated.

Expert advice

When it's bath time, be careful not to leave your child in the water for too long, to avoid weakening their skin's natural hydration and protection. If the water is too hot, it could dry out the skin. The ideal temperature is 37°C, or 35°C if their skin is really dry, and should not be used for longer than 15 minutes. A daily bath, especially during the first 9 months, is not necessary. You can use a warm, moistened washcloth between 2 baths. When you get baby out of the bath, immediately dry your baby's skin, preferably with a microfibre towel. Tap the towel lightly against the body rather than rubbing it, to avoid further irritating sensitive skin. Immediately apply a suitable moisturiser to capture moisture on the skin's surface and maintain its natural hydration. To dress baby after drying, cotton remains the number one choice for fragile skin.
