Heartburn is triggered by overly acidic or highly spicy foods, as well as heavy consumption of coffee, tea, or alcohol. Certain medications —particularly anti-inflammatory drugs—stress, smoking, infectious agents (Helicobacter pylori infection), certaingenetic predispositions, or chronic diseases can also cause gastritis. When inflammation of the stomach lining becomes chronic, it can lead to the formation of a gastric ulcer, a deep sore that forms in the inner lining of the stomach.

What is gastroesophageal reflux?
Gastroesophageal reflux, or "GERD", is the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus. Common in babies, gastroesophageal reflux is also common in adults, affecting 10% of them at least once a week.
Causes and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux
GERD is caused by a weakness in the muscle that closes the junction between the esophagus and the stomach. It occurs mainly after meals, at night, or in certain positions. The onset of GERD is also exacerbated by excessive pressure on the abdomen, associated with pregnancy or obesity.
GERD causes heartburn, acid regurgitation, a bitter taste in the mouth, and sleep disturbances. Pulmonary and ENT symptoms may also occur in cases of prolonged reflux (chronic cough, hoarseness, tooth erosion, etc.).
Relieve heartburn and acid reflux with essential oils
Heartburn and acid reflux can be alleviated by essential oils of Basil, Peppermint, Juniper and Roman chamomile, which act on both the autonomic nervous system and the digestive system. Take them preferably with honey, which will help the essential oils be absorbed quickly in the esophagus and stomach.
