Ayurveda, or ayurvedic medicine, is a sacred and comprehensive therapeutic science that has been practised in India for more than 5,000 years. It is also a philosophy and a way of life.

In Sanskrit, “ayur” means life and “veda” means science or knowledge. Discovered by the rishis, the great sages of the Himalayas, through their observation of nature and the five elements (water, earth, fire, air, and space or ether), it is based on the concept of the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha), each made up of two elements. Every individual is born with their own proportion of each dosha, often with one or two predominating.

The aim of Ayurveda is to live in harmony with your basic constitution, to understand what helps you stay healthy and happy, and what supports radiant skin. It also teaches you to recognise anything that may disturb your balance or wellbeing. To keep your constitution in harmony, you are encouraged to choose activities, foods, or plants that counter the qualities of your predominant doshas, thereby soothing and rebalancing them.

Neem, or nimba twak in Sanskrit, belongs to the Meliaceae family. In India, several of its traditional names mean “the one who can cure all ills.” It is considered a sacred tree with many virtues, and multiple parts of the tree are used. In Ayurvedic medicine, Neem is known for eliminating toxins in cases of inflammatory conditions affecting the skin and mucous membranes.

Its detoxifying and purifying properties make it a valuable ingredient for oily and acne-prone skin, as well as for anti-dandruff hair care. It can also be incorporated into homemade toothpaste to soothe inflamed gums or simply to help cleanse and purify the mouth.

I use this powder to combat my hair getting greasy too quickly. I've seen some results, but I remain skeptical. My hair looks "cleaner" after washing it, and I feel like the powder purifies my scalp, but my hair still gets greasy fairly quickly. It's still a good product though :)
