Learn more
An annual plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family, basil is native to India, where it is considered a sacred herb dedicated to Vishnu and Krishna. It is traditionally believed to offer physical and spiritual protection to those who wear it.
Its name is derived from the Greek “basilikos”, meaning “royal”, a reference to the noble character of its aroma, once deemed worthy of kings. Introduced to Europe through Italy and the south of France, basil became an essential condiment in Provençal and Italian cuisine, celebrated for its fresh, aromatic fragrance.
It is, for example, the basic ingredient in pistou (traditional Provençal cold sauce) and pesto sauces.
There are over 150 varieties of basil, but only a few are used in medicine and phytotherapy, particularly to treat digestive disorders, and as a general stimulant and tonic for the body. Traditionally used to help the intestines function properly, soothe nausea and digestive disorders, and relieve stress and nervousness, Basil linalool hydrosol will also seduce you with its fresh, intense fragrance, adding a surprisingly aromatic touch to your cosmetic preparations, as well as your culinary recipes.
