An evergreen shrub renowned for its fragrant blooms, Provençal lavender thrives at altitudes above 1,000 metres on the sun-drenched slopes of Provence. The term “fine lavender” refers specifically to this high-altitude variety, prized for its exceptional quality. From June onwards, the fields shimmer in beautiful shades of blue and violet, creating the iconic Provençal landscape. This variety produces a lavender of remarkable olfactory finesse, distinct from ordinary lavender.
Its name comes from the Latin "lavare", meaning "to wash", and "lavanda", meaning "used for washing", which proves that its use was already associated with physical and psychological cleansing.
Lavender's antiseptic, healing and antibacterial properties have been known for centuries. Dried lavender flowers are traditionally used in sachets or bottles to fragrance wardrobes and drawers, but also to keep moths away. During plague years, it was common to carry a bouquet of dried flowers to ward off infection.
Distillation by steam distillation also yields Lavender hydrosol, with its traditionally recognised revitalising properties. This active ingredient will soothe both your skin and your mind.
Lavender fine hydrosol is also traditionally recommended for treating pets' coats, to soothe minor irritations and keep unwanted pests away.
