A perennial plant in the Malvaceae family, Hibiscus sabdariffa, also known as "Guinea sorrel", is native to West Africa. Its magnificent edible purple flowers are widely used in traditional local cooking, particularly to make Bissap (or Carcadé), a red, tart infusion appreciated as much for its taste as for its medicinal properties.
Hibiscus oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the plant. The seeds are organically grown. No pesticides are used on these crops. After harvesting, the seeds are pressed locally to produce a carrier oil rich in essential fatty acids (omega-6) and antioxidants, particularly beneficial for cosmetic use.
With an unrivalled vitamin E content- around 2 times higher than that of Prickly Pear oil, which is already renowned for its exceptional tocopherol content - this oil is the ideal ingredient for combating the signs of skin ageing and the oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Its richness in phytosterols and omega-6 complements this composition remarkably well, giving it regenerating and softening properties. Easily absorbed by the skin, it is popular in skincare products for all skin types, and is particularly beneficial for dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin.
Hibiscus oil is also useful in hair care: it nourishes, protects and coats the hair fibre, restoring strength and shine to the hair.
