Cranberries, also known as large red bilberry or “atoca” are the fruit of an evergreen plant that only drops its leaves every two years. Native to North America, the shrub can live up to 100 years. It grows wild in damp peat bogs, but can also be cultivated.
Cranberry fruit, a small, tart red berry, has been used for decades as a traditional remedy by the Ayurveda and Unani systems of medicine, known for its antiseptic properties in treating urinary tract infections and cystitis.
Cranberry seed oil, in addition to making the most of a previously little-used part of the fruit, is a precious and highly beneficial oil in both cosmetics and food. It has a particularly balanced composition in terms of essential fatty acids, coupled with an exceptional wealth of unsaponifiable matter.
It contains a natural 1:1 ratio of omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and omega-6 (linoleic acid), as well as omega-9 (oleic acid). This ideal blend facilitates the absorption of essential fatty acids into the skin to nourish it, while helping to retain water and moisturise* the skin.
This remarkable oil also contains numerous active ingredients in high percentages, including tocopherols and tocotrienols, carotenoids, phytosterols and phospholipids. These "unsaponifiable" active ingredients are renowned for their moisturising, lubricating, anti-ageing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This oil can therefore be used to create skincare products tailored to mature skin, protecting the skin barrier and repairing, restoring and toning. This rare oil is therefore a fabulous cosmetic ingredient and an exceptional anti-ageing active ingredient to incorporate into your formulas. Its penetrating properties are appreciated by all skin types.
