Properties
In beauty products, organic Menthol Crystals are known for the following properties:
Refreshing, "ice cube" effect: Menthol Crystals provide the intense "freshness" effect characteristic of mint. They stimulate the skin's cold-sensitive receptors, recreating an immediate sensation of icy freshness.
Plumping and volumising effect on the lips: causes a slight reddening and subtle swelling of the lips for a natural plumping effect.
Refreshes breath and helps mask unpleasant odours
Improves skin penetration of other active ingredients, such as essential oils
Properties
In wellness, organic menthol crystals are recognized for the following properties:
Refreshing, "ice cube" effect: Menthol is the compound that gives mint its characteristic "cooling" effect. It works by stimulating the skin's receptors that react to cold, recreating a sensation of cold.
May help decongest : ideal for light legs and swollen feet
Relieves "stuffy" noses
Soothing: helps relieve muscle tension and insect bites
Traditionally known to relieve headaches: apply locally to the temples (not too close to the eyes)

Organic menthol crystals can be incorporated as active ingredients in all your oil- or alcohol-based formulas.
Incorporating menthol into an oily formula: balm, oil, stick
Step 1
Melt the menthol crystals in oil by heating gently (around 40°C is sufficient). In the case of a balm or stick requiring higher heating (70°C), add the menthol crystals at the last moment and allow them to melt while stirring.
Step 2
Use the oil phase in the rest of the preparation.
There are two possible methods for incorporating menthol into an emulsion, cream, or lotion containing an oil phase:
Add Menthol to the oil phase before emulsification.
Step 1
Melt the menthol crystals in oil by heating gently (around 40°C is sufficient). In the case of a hot emulsion requiring higher heating (70°C), add the menthol crystals at the last moment and allow them to melt while stirring.
Step 2
Use the oil phase in the rest of the preparation.
Add menthol in an alcohol solution at the end of the formulation process: adding alcohol increases the "cooling" effect of the cream.
Step 1
Melt the menthol crystals in a small amount of alcohol (approximately twice the weight of the menthol crystals in alcohol).
Step 2
Incorporate this alcoholic solution into the cooled emulsion at the end of preparation.
Incorporating menthol into an aqueous gel
Step 1
Dissolve the menthol crystals in at least four times their weight in alcohol (90% pharmacy alcohol) or Disper or vegetable oil of your choice.
Step 2
Add this cold solution to the pre-formed gel.
Step 3
Shake vigorously. If you have used Disper, the gel will take on a "gel-cream" appearance. If you have used alcohol, the gel will become slightly opaque.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is often confusion between the terms "menthol crystals" and "mint crystals," but this is actually a misnomer. Mint crystals, as they are sometimes called, do not exist as such. What are referred to as mint crystals are actually menthol crystals. These are obtained from mint essential oil (usually Mentha arvensis) through a crystallization process that isolates menthol, the compound responsible for the intense cooling sensation. "Mint crystals" is therefore simply an incorrect name for menthol crystals.
