What is the role of melanin?
In the animal kingdom, this pigmentation plays a role in photoprotection, camouflage and thermoregulation. In humans, different types of melanin are used to define the colour of the eyes, hair and skin, and their main role is to protect against the sun's UV rays. In the body, melanin is naturally produced in melanocytes from tyrosine, and its synthesis is induced by exposure to the sun. It is eumelanin, a dark brown melanin, that is responsible for tanning. The individual proportions of eumelanin (brown) and pheomelanin (red) define the natural colour of our hair.
As we age, melanin production in the hair follicles slows down, leading to the appearance of white hair.
What is melanin?
Melanins are a family of molecules naturally present in humans and animals and responsible, depending on their type and concentration, for the colouring of the skin in humans, the feathers of birds and the fur of mammals, etc.
Does Melanin food supplement protect my skin from the sun?
No, taking the Melanin food supplement stimulates the skin's natural melanin synthesis and accelerates tanning, which activates the natural photoprotection process, but it does not replace the use of appropriate sun protection.
Can the food supplement be taken continuously?
Yes, the Melanin food supplement can be taken over the long term, particularly if the desired effect is to improve hair pigmentation. For a long-term repigmentation effect on the hair, it is recommended to use this dietary supplement as a course of treatment lasting at least 4 months, repeated regularly to maintain the effect. For a tanning action, it is advisable to start taking this food supplement before sun exposure to make the skin for the sun. After exposure to the sun, you can continue to take the Melanin food supplement to prolong your tan.
Can Melanin food supplements help you tan without the sun?
Taking a Melanin food supplement activates the natural process of melanin synthesis by our skin during exposure to the sun, enabling a tan to appear more quickly from the start of sun exposure. The tan will be quicker, more intense and longer-lasting. But we don't have any tests to prove that an effect will be visible without the sun.
What is the difference between Melanin food supplement and a self-tanner?
The Melanin food supplement activates melanogenesis and therefore induces the natural production of melanin in the skin, which is the normal tanning process. The result is a "real" tan that is long-lasting and protective. Self-tanners only colour the surface of the skin through a reaction between the active ingredients and the skin, but this colouring is not a "real" tan and does not protect the skin from the sun. Natural tanning contributes to the skin's natural defence against UV rays, but does not replace the use of a suitable sun cream.
Can Melanin food supplements be used in cases of sun allergy?
Yes, the Melanin food supplement helps to make the skin for the sun, but it does not dispense with the use of sun cream in the event of exposure to the sun, or with the usual sun safety measures depending on the intensity of exposure and the sensitivity of your skin (wearing a hat, clothing, avoiding the hours of maximum sunshine…).
At what time of day should you take Melanin food supplement?
You can take Melanin tablets at any time of day, but for best absorption, it is advisable to take this food supplement with a meal. Regularity plays an important role in the effectiveness of this dietary supplement.
