Quinton plasma is seawater collected from phytoplankton vortexes, then processed using the AQP protocol: 0.22 µm cold microfiltration, strict microbiological testing, and, for the isotonic version, dilution in very low-mineralized spring water. This process preserves up to 78 bioavailable trace elements and guarantees the absence of pathogens.
Hypertonic / isotonic: what do these terms mean?
Here is the difference between the two versions:
Hypertonic solution: approx. 33 g NaCl · L⁻¹, or an osmolarity of around 2,400 mOsm; it contains three times more salts than our internal fluids and is suitable for occasional needs for rapid remineralization.
Isotonic solution: approx. 9 g NaCl · L⁻¹, thus close to human extracellular serum (≈ 300 mOsm). It is designed for gentle, daily rebalancing, particularly for sensitive individuals.
Plasma, serum, seawater: what are the differences?
In physiology, blood plasma refers to the liquid fraction of blood that still contains clotting factors, whereas serum lacks them. Seawater, on the other hand, contains more sodium, chloride, and magnesium ions than human plasma; it must therefore be adjusted (isotonic) before regular consumption. Defining these terms avoids any confusion.
