What Is Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in our bodies, particularly in the deeper layers of our skin. It plays an important role by hydrating our connective tissue. It is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that attracts and retains water thanks to its negative charge. It gives our tissues much of their firmness. The problem is that its production decreases with age.

Formulated with a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (3.5 per cent), our serum is a virtually universal skincare product. You can use it at any age, on all skin types, and almost anywhere. It is designed as a simple, comprehensive solution to issues related to dehydration and ageing.

Did you know?

In cosmetics, the molecular weight of hyaluronic acid determines its ability to penetrate the epidermis. Larger molecules remain on the skin’s surface, where they act as moisturising and plumping agents, while smaller ones penetrate deeper.

Our hyaluronic acid is composed of four molecular weights; the smallest grade works deep within the skin, whilst the highest grade acts directly on the skin’s surface. This synergy ensures the skin is thoroughly hydrated.

What Exactly Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide naturally present in the body, known for its exceptional ability to retain water. In cosmetics, it hydrates and plumps the skin by attracting and retaining moisture, which helps maintain the skin’s elasticity and softness. It comes in different forms: high molecular weight for surface hydration and low molecular weight for deeper penetration and collagen stimulation.

All the benefits of our 3.5% concentrated hyaluronic acid serum

For Skin

  • It intensely hydrates the upper layers of the epidermis. Our serum combines different molecular weights, so it works on multiple levels. It thus provides intense, long-lasting hydration for up to 6 hours after application (*).

  • It protects the skin from external aggressors. High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid remains on the skin’s surface, where it strengthens the skin barrier. It therefore helps to limit water evaporation, which contributes to dehydration and premature ageing.

  • It improves the appearance of signs of ageing. Thanks to the moisturising and protective properties of hyaluronic acid, our serum plumps the skin and reduces both the depth and width of wrinkles (**). It is clinically proven to help restore the skin’s elasticity.

For Hair

  • It coats the hair. Our serum forms an imperceptible film around the hair fibre. This film acts as a barrier that protects the hair from dehydration and humidity. It therefore helps to keep hair supple and revitalised, without frizz.

  • It restructures the hair shafts. Thanks to its moisturising properties, hyaluronic acid helps restructure the hair. It therefore helps prevent breakage and split ends, without leaving a greasy film or sticky feeling.

  • It softens the hair. Its ‘smoothing’ action helps to even out the tiny rough patches that catch on the hair’s surface, particularly when it is damaged. It acts as a smoothing coating, giving the lengths a silky, pleasant feel.

How to Use Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum on Your Face and Hair?

Skin Needs

Our concentrated hyaluronic acid serum is designed to meet the needs of most skin types. Its gel-like formula penetrates the skin quickly, without flaking or tightness.

  • For dehydrated skin: It boosts the skin’s ability to retain moisture and gradually improves its comfort.

  • For normal skin: It maintains the skin’s moisture balance and natural radiance with a texture that feels almost weightless.

  • For mature skin: It supports cell regeneration, bringing a fresh glow to the complexion, and reduces the appearance of static wrinkles.

  • For dry skin: It helps restore a soft feel and strengthen the skin’s defences against external stress factors.

  • For sagging skin: It plumps up the skin’s appearance, improves its elasticity and firms the facial contours with repeated use.

Hair Needs

It’s also suitable for most hair types. It’s particularly well-suited to the following hair types.

  • For damaged hair: It prevents breakage and split ends by improving the hair’s suppleness.

  • For curly, wavy or frizzy hair: It’s ideal for taming flyaways and redefining bouncy curls.

  • For dry hair: It boosts moisture levels and helps restore a vibrant, healthy appearance.

When should you apply it?

You can apply our serum once or twice a day, depending on your preference. It’s suitable for day and night use.

Applying it in the morning helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent imperceptible water loss throughout the day. As for your hair, it reduces the risk of dehydration.

Applying it in the evening helps support cell renewal for a radiant and brighter complexion when you wake up. As for your hair, it can protect it from friction against your pillowcase.

How do you apply it to your face?

  1. Cleansing: Start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and prepare your skin to absorb the active ingredients.

  2. Application: Take a small amount of hyaluronic acid (in serum or cream form) onto your fingertips, then apply the product to slightly damp skin to maximise hydration. Spread it evenly over your face and neck using gentle, upward strokes. Allow the product to absorb for a few minutes before applying other skincare products. Do not rub to avoid irritating the skin.

  3. Hydration: Finish with a moisturiser to lock in moisture and enhance the effects of hyaluronic acid.

  4. Sun protection: In the morning, also apply sun protection after your skincare routine to protect your skin from environmental stressors.

How do you apply it to your hair?

  1. After washing: On clean, damp hair, apply a small amount of the hyaluronic acid-based product to the lengths and ends.

  2. Work through: Gently massage to distribute the product evenly.

  3. Leave-in time: Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

  4. Drying: Dry your hair as usual. For ongoing hydration, you can also use a leave-in treatment containing hyaluronic acid.

Orianne's Formulation Expert Tips to Avoid Product Flaking

Apply to Damp Skin

Apply the hyaluronic acid to damp skin. You can use a hydrosol such as Damask rose hydrosol, a toner, or even plain water to dampen the skin. Then apply the hyaluronic acid serum.

Why? As the molecule is attracted to water, it penetrates the skin more quickly and effectively. Applying it to damp skin is therefore more effective, as the molecule is absorbed better and faster.

Apply a Cream or Oil

Applying a skincare oil or cream after the serum helps strengthen the skin’s hydrolipidic film, forming a protective barrier that prevents imperceptible water loss. Our skin needs a dual moisturising and nourishing action to maintain its optimal moisture levels:

  • The serum provides a hydration boost, strengthening the hydrophilic part of the skin barrier.

  • The cream helps to boost the skin’s hydration and strengthen its lipid cement. It therefore has a dual action on the hydrolipid film: moisturising and nourishing.

  • Skincare oil, composed solely of fatty substances, provides a nutritional boost for the skin and strengthens the lipid component of the hydrolipidic film. Maintaining the proper balance of the skin’s hydrolipidic film is essential to prevent water loss through evaporation.

For hair, apply to damp hair for best results.

DOs & DON’Ts

  1. Do

    • Apply it to your face, under-eye area, around your lips, your neck and your décolletage.

    • Use it in combination with another serum of your choice, such as our Vitamin C serum, applying the hyaluronic acid treatment last.

    • Allow it to absorb completely before following with your day cream or night cream.

    • Keep it in the fridge for an immediate cooling effect.

  2. Don’t

    • Don’t apply it after your moisturiser (it should always be applied underneath, onto bare skin).

    • Avoid rubbing it in. Use smoothing and tapping motions instead.

    • Don’t use too much. A single pump is enough for both your face and hair.

Expert Advice

Many of you ask the same question: should you apply a hyaluronic acid serum to damp skin to boost its effectiveness? The answer is not necessarily. For one thing, the serum you're applying is already water-based, which gives the hyaluronic acid molecules something to bind to on the skin. What's more, our bodies are made up of nearly 60% water, so there's no risk of a hyaluronic acid serum drying us out by soaking up water like a sponge! That said, remember that it's not enough on its own to keep your skin fully hydrated. Skin also needs emollients (found in your creams) to stay properly moisturised.
