Do you have wavy, curly, frizzy or textured hair and want to colour your hair naturally without damaging it? Whether you want to make it shinier, more lustrous or cover up your grey hair, natural plant-based hair colours are perfect for the job!

Plant-based dye is a 100% natural hair colour obtained from plant powders (often henna, blended with other ayurvedic powderscolourants) without any chemicals. As well as colouring the hair, plant-based dyes sheath the hair, volumise, protect, shine, reduce hair loss and even restore balance to oily scalps. In short, plant-based dyes are a genuine hair care treatment, and you can use them as often as you like!
Natural hair colour has a number of advantages over traditional chemical hair colours: natural, plant-based hair colours are kind to the hair and are less aggressive to the hair fibre than chemical hair colours. What's more, with this type of dye, the risk of allergies is reduced because they contain fewer sensitising and irritating ingredients. However, it is advisable to carry out a sensitivity test before use to ensure that your scalp tolerates them.
Strengthens the hair fibre: some plant-based dyes, such as those with a henna base, act like a hair care treatment and strengthen the hair structure rather than damaging it, leaving hair stronger and less prone to breakage.
Natural shine: unlike chemical dyes, which can leave hair dull, plant-based dyes give hair natural shine by smoothing the hair cuticles.
Reduced irritation: better tolerated than chemical dyes. Natural dyes reduce the risk of irritation, itching or allergies.

If you have dry hair or hair that tends to dry out (this is often the case with wavy, curly, frizzy or textured hair), we recommend adding one or more moisturising ingredients to your mixture, such as aloe vera gel or plant-derived glycerine.
Quantities to apply
For roots: 50 g or ¼ of the 250 g pack
For short hair: 100 g or â…“ of the 250 g pack
For medium-length hair: 150 g or ½ pack of 250 g
For long hair: 250 g or 1 whole pack of 250 g
Colouring
Pour the required amount of mixture into a bowl.
Gradually add lukewarm water and your moisturisers until the mixture is smooth.
Apply the mixture straight away!
First of all, our advice before application: to be sure of the result, we recommend that you carry out a test 24 hours beforehand on a test strand. Avoid using iron utensils, which could alter the effects of the dye. Instead, use wooden utensils. Finally, protect your clothes as much as possible to avoid staining them.
Apply your hair colour to washed hair.
You can apply it to wet or dry hair. However, we personally recommend that you apply it to damp hair for easier application.
Start at the back of your head, dividing your hair into sections.
Apply the mixture in a thick layer from the roots to the ends. Once all the mixture has been applied, massage it through your hair to distribute it evenly.
Cover your hair with cling film and leave on for 1 to 3 hours, depending on the colour you want. Note: the longer you leave it on, the more intense the colour will be.
Rinse the dye out with clean water.
If necessary, detangle with a conditioner or Neutral Hair Mask Base and apply nothing else to your hair for 48 hours. The definitive colour appears 3 to 4 days after application.
On average, a plant-based colour keeps its shine (depending on the hair) for 6 weeks. After this period, the highlights will still be there but will fade. There are several alternatives for looking after your coloured hair.

Sidr powder
Sidr, also known as jujube, is used in ayurvedic traditional medicine to soothe people of the pitta and kapha types. High in saponosides and mucilage, sidr is a choice ingredient in plant-based paste shampoos. Incorporated into your mixtures, it cleanses, improves and volumises the hair. It has the advantage of being a good solution for washing hair that has been coloured (particularly with indigo or katam) without causing it to bleed, while fixing the colour.

Organic Karanja and Raspberry Protective Hair Oil
This 100% natural oil protects hair from the drying effects of the sun and sea water. Thanks to its combo of organic raspberry and karanja carrier oils with antioxidant properties, it enhances and preserves your hair's radiance. Also ideal for coloured hair, its light-textured formula preserves the shine and intensity of colour and leaves hair soft,

Natural Organic Pomegranate Vinegar
Made by fermenting organic pomegranate juice, this vinegar is high in antioxidants. Incorporated into the last rinse after your shampoos or henna, it makes detangling easier, makes hair shiny and helps to preserve your colour's radiance.
Although plant-based dyes have many benefits, there are a few things to bear in mind. Firstly, the results can be unpredictable on hair that has been chemically treated. If your hair has been bleached or chemically treated, the pigments may cling to the hair fibre in a different way creating colours that are different to those expected.
Similarly, if you want to colour your hair dramatically, plant-based dyes will not be suitable as natural dyes do not contain denaturing agents such as hydrogen peroxide.

If you don't like the colour, you can apply a clay-based mask to make it fade more quickly. Green clay is known for its clarifying properties. Add water or hydrosol and mix to form a smooth, creamy paste. Apply the mixture immediately to the hair in a thick layer. Leave on until the mask begins to dry (you are advised not to leave the mixture to dry completely). Then rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove the mask.
Does plant-based dye cover white hair as well as chemical dye?
Yes, plant-based dyes can cover white hair. However, it's important to note that results vary depending on the type of hair and the shade chosen.
How long does plant-based hair colour last compared to chemical hair colour?
Plant-based dyes tend to fade more gradually than chemical dyes, but many factors influence how long the colour lasts, such as how often you wash your hair, your hair type and how you look after it.
Can plant-based dyes be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Plant-based dyes are generally considered safer during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as they do not contain harsh products such as ammonia or peroxide. However, it is always advisable to consult a health professional before using any product, even a natural one, during this period.
