What Is Cellulite on the Arms?

Cellulite is a change in the appearance and structure of the skin that mainly affects women. It manifests as a dimpled, uneven skin texture, often described as an orange peel. On the arms, and elsewhere on the body, it is caused by the accumulation of subcutaneous fat pressing against the connective tissue, thereby creating visible bumps and dimples.

Anatomically, cellulite develops when adipocytes (fat cells) increase in size and number. This growth can compress blood and lymphatic vessels, leading to poor circulation and fluid retention, which exacerbates the appearance of cellulite.

Why Do We Get Cellulite on Our Arms?

Cellulite on the arms results from various factors, including:

Hormonal Factors: Hormones play a crucial role in the formation of cellulite. Oestrogen, in particular, influences fat distribution and blood circulation. Fluctuating levels of this hormone can contribute to the development of cellulite

Genetic Predisposition: Heredity can determine our predisposition to developing cellulite. If our parents have it, we are likely to have it as well

Dietary Habits: A diet high in saturated fats, refined sugar, and salt can contribute to fat accumulation and water retention, thereby exacerbating cellulite. A lack of fibre can also slow down the metabolism, which promotes fat storage

Lack of Physical Activity: A sedentary lifestyle is one of the main factors contributing to cellulite. A lack of exercise reduces blood and lymphatic circulation, thereby preventing the effective elimination of toxins and fat

Weight Gain: Particularly if it is rapid, weigh gain can accentuate the appearance of cellulite. An increase in subcutaneous fat leads to greater pressure on the connective tissue, creating visible irregularities on the skin

Chronic Stress and Lack of Sleep: Chronic stress and/or a lack of sleep increase cortisol levels, a hormone that promotes fat storage and can disrupt hormonal balance, which can then contribute to the formation of cellulite

What Does Cellulite on the Arms Look Like?

Cellulite on the arms manifests itself through several characteristic signs:

  • Orange Peel Skin: The surface of the skin takes on a bumpy, uneven appearance, which is often visible in direct light.

  • Thickening of the Skin: The skin on the arms may appear thicker or swollen in places

  • A Loss of Firmness: The arms may appear flabby and less toned.

  • Increased Sensitivity: The area of the arm affected by cellulite may become more sensitive to touch or cause mild pain

How Can You Combat Cellulite on Your Arms Naturally?

To reduce cellulite on the arms, there are several effective natural remedies and home remedies. Here is our small selection:

Anti-Cellulite Active Ingredients

Organic Ivy plant extract

Ivy Extract

Ivy extract has decongestant, toning, and draining properties. It improves blood and lymphatic circulation, thereby reducing water retention and the toxins responsible for cellulite. Additionally, it firms the skin and improves its elasticity.

Incorporate organic ivy extract into all your water-based skincare products: creams, body milks, gels, and lotions. Massage this mixture into your arms every evening after your shower, using firm, circular movements.

Massages and Anti-Cellulite Techniques

Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic massage helps to stimulate and improve lymphatic circulation, thereby reducing water retention and toxins. This type of massage is gentle and involves circular movements and light pressure. Use your hands to gently massage your arms, working your way up from your wrists towards your shoulders, following the path of the lymphatic vessels. Perform this massage twice a week for best results.

Slimming Massage Oil

The Pinch-and-roll Technique

This technique involves pinching and rolling the skin between your fingers to break up fat deposits, stimulate blood circulation and improve skin texture. Take a fold of skin between your thumb and fingers, and roll it between your fingers, working your way up from your wrists towards your shoulders. You can use a slimming massage oil to make the movement easier and to benefit from its anti-cellulite properties. Perform this massage every day for about 10 minutes.

Precautions for Use

We would like to remind you how important it is to test each product on a small area of your skin before using it extensively on your arms, to check for any allergic reactions.

If you have severe cellulite on your arms or any health concerns, we recommend that you consult a healthcare professional before starting any new routine.

Expert Advice

Keep a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day to remind yourself to drink regularly. Make sure you drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. You can also add slices of organic lemon or cucumber for extra flavour. Staying well-hydrated helps flush out toxins and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
