The hazelnut tree (formerly known as "coudrier") is a member of the Betulaceae family found in temperate regions of thenorthern hemisphere. There are many legends about this sacred tree: happiness for couples, fertility, and it is even rumoured in western France that during the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve, hazel twigs turn to gold. So there's little time to pick them.
If the finder doesn't succeed before the twelfth stroke, he disappears with the twig... This tree has a real air of mystery about it, as dowsers use its branches to find water wells hidden underground, and no one has ever been able to explain this divinatory power.
The hazelnut from this tree is the oleaginous fruit with the highest lipid content. The oil obtained from cold-pressing hazelnuts is very mild and has a taste and smell that are much appreciated by gourmets...
Its high oleic acid content gives it outstanding softening properties, used in cosmetics. Very dry, hazelnut oil penetrates easily and is perfect for making massage oils and aromatic care products. It is recommended in skin care products for preventing and massaging stretch marks and scars, as it helps tosoften the skin by making it more elastic.
Hazelnut oil is also reputed to regulate sebum secretion, making it the ideal oil for formulating beauty products for combination to oily skin and acne-prone skin.
