Organic Virgin Rocket Oil

An annual plant from the Brassicaceae family, rocket Eruca sativa is well known for its use in salads and its characteristic peppery and spicy flavour. Known for being invigorating and stimulating, it was used as an aphrodisiac in antiquity, and its cultivation was banned in monasteries in the Middle Ages for this reason. Today, it is appreciated both for its strong flavour and its health benefits, due notably to its high glucosinolate content. Less well known, its seeds can be used to produce a carrier oil with very beneficial properties for hair.

Obtained through simple cold pressing and without refining, this oil is naturally rich in erucic acid, a long-chain monounsaturated fatty acid (C22) often found in plants from the Brassicaceae family (formerly known as crucifers), such as Mustard or broccoli,.

Due to its long chain, this fatty acid is not easily digestible, making rocket oil unsuitable for use in food. However, this relatively rare fatty acid is known for its highly beneficial properties on the hair fibre, which it coats, strengthens, and protects. Erucic acid also gives rocket oil its fabulous silky feel, both rich and smooth on application but highly penetrating and non-greasy on the skin. Like mustard, rocket also contains isothiocyanates, responsible for its spicy flavour and its toning effects on the scalp and stimulating effects on hair growth.
