Our Haitian vetiver essential oil has an exceptionally delicate scent. It helps support the development of small Haitian producers and is one of our exceptional products.
An olfactory treasure from Haiti
This vetiver essential oil is harvested from vetiver roots in Haiti and distilled using know-how acquired over the years by our supplier. This oil, which combines earthy, exotic undergrowth, sweet and botanical notes, is highly valued by top perfumers, and is used in men's woody fragrances especially.
It also has toning properties, making it ideal for treatments that promote lighter legs, reduce redness and diminish the appearance of cellulite. Selected for its exceptional olfactory qualities, this very fine-smelling oil is also unanimously acclaimed by the Aroma-Zone team.
Optimum distillation, with no waste
The roots achieve a reasonable level of growth and maturity in 10 to 12 months, but it's around 18 months that their yield of essential oil is slightly higher and, most importantly, when the quality of the essence is excellent.
The quality of the raw ingredient is therefore selected based on the age of the roots, the percentage of waste and the harvesting season, in order to obtain an oil of the highest possible quality. The supplier also uses a long distillation time to ensure that all the aromatic molecules are captured.
Our distiller, who researched the way existing distilleries were operating, realised that they were very wasteful with poor extraction of the essence, wastage of essential oils, wastage of energy, non-calorifugation of stills and lines transporting steam, discarding of used roots, wastage of water, wastage of manpower for loading and unloading stills, etc. He therefore wanted to improve this system by applying common sense to develop a distillation process that was optimal in terms of both essential oil quality and yield, but that was also more sustainable and eco-friendly, thus avoiding unnecessary waste.
Haitian vetiver farmers have been supported and helped, particularly financially, by our supplier. This sector provides a living for several thousand farmers and their families. A payment system based on distillation yield has also been introduced instead of the usual arbitrary weighing system.
An eco-friendly and sustainable crop
Vetiver cultivation is important from an environmental point of view, as the length of its roots makes it a very useful plant for reducing soil erosion.
It is grown in fields, and the Haitian agro-climatic and social context is well suited to vetiver production, due to the the large network of farms on the limestone hillsides, which are unsuitable for other crops, the plant's robustness and disease resistance, the manual harvest and the low financial outlay required by the small-scale farmers who grow it.
