Varicose eczema is an inflammation of the skin most commonly linked to poor venous circulation in the legs. It mainly appears around the ankles and on the lower legs, alongside swelling, varicose veins or a sensation of heavy legs. The skin may become red, dry, scaly, itchy or weeping. Over time, it may also thicken or take on a brownish tinge. Natural and cosmetic treatments can help maintain the comfort of dry, healthy skin, but they do not correct the venous insufficiency that causes the lesions. Medical treatment is necessary to minimise the risk of recurrence, secondary infection or ulcers.
