Nigella body balm (J. Fairley)

BeautyBody care

  • Rose hydrosol: 50 ml

  • Borax powder: 1/8 teaspoon

  • Crushed nigella seeds: 10 g

  • Beeswax: 1 tablespoon

  • Sweet almond carrier oil: 50 ml

  • Grape seed oil: 50 ml

  • Grapefruit seed extract: 1 drop

  • 1 capsule of vitamin E (or 7 drops of vitamin E)

Directions: Heat the rose hydrosol in a saucepan and add the borax. As soon as the liquid comes to the boil, turn off the heat, add the nigella seeds to the pan and leave to infuse for 30 minutes to 1 hour until the mixture has cooled. Melt the beeswax in the oils over a bain-marie. Filter the rose hydrosol-based liquid and reheat until it is approximately the same temperature as the oil and wax mixture. Pour the oil and wax mixture into a bowl, then add the rose hydrosol mixture very gradually. Mix with an electric mixer until you obtain a smooth, thick lotion. Pierce the vitamin E capsule and empty it into the lotion. Add the grapefruit seed extract. Pour into a screw-top jar.

Use: Use to carefully massage very dry areas of skin.

  • 100 g sweet almond carrier oil

  • 25 g white beeswax

  • 70 g rose hydrosol

  • 2 drops of essential oil

Directions: Melt the wax in a bain-marie and add the oil, stirring constantly. Allow to cool, then add the hydrosol and essential oil. Beat with a mixer or whisk until you obtain a white cream.

Regenerating concentrate with ho wood (S. Macheteau)

BeautyFacial skincare

  • 26 g rose hydrosol

  • 7 drops gum rockrose essential oil

  • 10 drops grapefruit seed extract

Directions: Melt the wax in the carrier oils and lanolin in a bain-marie. When the wax has melted, remove from the heat. Gradually add the hydrosol while emulsifying. Stir in the remaining ingredients while continuing to emulsify. Transfer to a jar and store in the fridge.

Sage and yarrow runny face moisturising lotion (J. Fairley)

Cocoa and macadamia moisturising body lotion (T. Chagnoux and H. Baron)

BeautyBody care

  • Beeswax: 10 g

  • Borax: 1 knife tip

  • Rose hydrosol: 100 ml

  • Macadamia oil: 50 ml

  • Sweet almond carrier oil: 25 ml

  • Cocoa butter: 20 g

  • Honey: 5 ml

Directions: Pour the hydrosol into one container, and the carrier oils, cocoa butter, honey and wax into another. Place the containers in a bain-marie and wait until they reach a temperature of 65 degrees. Remove the hydrolat from the heat and add the borax, stirring well. Remove the oils from the heat and whisk, adding the hydrosol very gradually to form the emulsion. Continue whisking until cool and pour into a bottle. Blend well. Pour into a jar when still fairly runny.

Aroma-Zone comments: Borax is an irritant and controversial raw ingredient. You can leave it out by replacing the beeswax and borax with an emulsifying wax.

This cream should preferably be stored in a pump bottle to avoid pollution. Use within a week of making it. You can preserve it for longer by adding ten or so drops of grapefruit seed extract.
