The mastic tree is a shrub that grows widely around the Mediterranean and is renowned for its many traditional medicinal and food uses. The resin (or mastic) from the trunk is known to combat stomach ulcers and is used as a chewing gum to freshen breath and clean gums. Mastic leaves are reputed to treat stomach upsets. Mastic essential oil is also obtained from the leaves.
The fruit of the mastic tree, small round berries which ripen in winter from red to black, are edible, but above all used to produce mastic carrier oil, a greenish oil with an intense aromatic scent due to its natural essential oil content.
In Algeria, this oil is traditionally used to treat burns, small wounds and skin problems, varicose veins, haemorrhoids and coughs. In Morocco, mastic oil is reputed to relieve back pain. In cosmetics, this aromatic oil with powerful properties is traditionally used on the skin to nourish and repair dry, damaged skin, combat rosacea and heavy legs, and soothe minor irritations. In haircare, this oil is useful for soothing itching and combating dandruff, and its tonic properties are reputed to strengthen the hair. We're delighted to introduce you to this rare and powerful oil of exceptional quality!
Meet the producer and partner
This virgin mastic oil comes from an ethical, responsible and sustainable production chain in Algeria. It is produced in the Basse Kabylie region, a remote, unspoilt mountain area. In this relatively poor region, communities have organised themselves to promote this oil, which is traditionally used locally for its many virtues. Mastic trees grow abundantly in the wild in this area, so this oil is obtained without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers.
Locally known as tidekt, the fruits of the pistachio mastic are red berries that turn black when ripe. Harvesting takes place between November and January, and the fruit is picked by hand by local workers. Around 100 people work to produce the oil offered by Aroma-Zone. The oil is then obtained by cold pressing the berries using a hydraulic press, resulting in a very high quality virgin oil. It takes between 6 and 10 kg of berries to obtain 1 kg of oil . The traditional method of extracting carrier oil from the mastic tree involves crushing the berries while they are hot, generally by boiling them in water, and then decanting the oily part, but we have opted for a completely cold and perfectly controlled process, to ensure that the plant's active ingredients are preserved as much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Very interesting vegetable oil for my legs (circulatory problems). I'm waiting to see how it works with continued use.
This seems like a really good product. The oil is almost greenish and it's not fragrant. I bought it for my daughter's very persistent atopic dermatitis. It helped with healing, but didn't completely help with the itching, which is understandable. I'm using it around the house for other things, like when we got our first sun exposure and burned our faces; the next day, the burning, redness, and blisters were gone... So I recommend it because, again, it's a really potent oil.
I was not aware of this origin of lentisk. Just as effective as the traditional method!
It doesn't smell good, but it's incredibly good for the hair.
It's too early to draw any conclusions.
