Properties

As a cosmetic ingredient, melano'regul is recognised for its properties:

• Depigmenting and lightening : this active ingredient reduces the expression of tyrosinase, the key enzyme in the melanin synthesis process in melanocytes. It also reduces tyrosinase activity, which reduces the amount of melanin produced, resulting in a lightening effect.

• Helps reduce skin spots: this active ingredient reduces the accumulation of melanin in the epidermis by also reducing the number of melanocyte dendrites. Since dendrites are the 'arms' through which melanocytes transfer melanin to keratinocytes in the epidermis, reducing the number of dendrites prevents pigment accumulation in the epidermis and reduces pigmentation inhomogeneities.

• Effective in vitro and in vivo on volunteers: this active ingredient has been tested on several types of spots: surface pigmentation spots (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left by pimples or lesions), brown spots caused by UV rays, pigmentation irregularities and deep spots caused by skin ageing. Melano'regul visibly reduces both surface spots and deeper pigmentary accumulations.

• Evens out and brightens the complexion: proven unifying effectiveness on volunteers: the skin-brightening effect is greater in areas with spots and hyperpigmentation, resulting in an overall homogenisation of the complexion, the skin is evened out and the complexion brightened.

• Safe and harmless : this active ingredient regulates melanin synthesis by intervening upstream in the process, without affecting the viability of melanocytes, unlike traditional depigmenting agents such as kojic acid, which have a toxic effect on cells.

Further explanation

This active ingredient is not photosensitising and can be used in a day care product, even in summer. However, exposure to the sun or UV rays tends to accentuate pigmentation spots and even create new ones, so it's advisable to avoid intense exposure and use protection suited to your skin type, especially if you have spots that you want to reduce.
