Spanish marjoram, also known as Spanish thyme, is a herb from the Lamiaceae family, found mainly in Spain and Portugal. In certain regions of southern Portugal, villages used to light fires with this aromatic herb to celebrate Midsummer's Day. According to popular tradition, anyone who did not inhale the aroma of this bela Luz ("beautiful light" in Portuguese) by jumping over the fire would not fall in love that year.

It differs from other essential oils in the thyme family in its characteristic odour, due to its high 1.8-cineole content. This composition gives it expectorant properties, and it is traditionally used to clear the respiratory tract.

I am testing this essential oil to treat hypertension. I will come back in three months to discuss this experience.
