Essential oil of Angelica

Angelica archangelica essential oil, aptly named "angel herb", is highly reputed for combating stress and nervousness. Soothing, it is well suited to sleep disorders. In psycho-energetic olfactotherapy, Archangelica essential oil helps to break physical and mental addictions and stimulates the energy of tired and convalescent bodies. It is also traditionally recommended for easing digestive discomforts.

Properties

For health, Angelica essential oil is recognised for the following properties:

  • Eupeptic, carminative, appetite stimulant

  • Antispasmodic

  • Anticoagulant

  • Anti-inflammatory for the skin

  • Blood purifying, lymphatic system stimulant, glandular stimulant, diuretic, promotes perspiration

Uses

It is traditionally used to improve the following:

  • Digestive disorders: spasmodic enterocolitis, intestinal gas, intestinal cramps, colic, etc.

  • Haemogliasis

  • Water retention, elimination of toxins

  • Anorexia, anaemia

Synergies

Atmospheric diffusion: Roman chamomile, Geranium, grapefruit, Lemon, Mandarin essential oils

In practice

Soothing, purifying: Mix with your oil blend. Apply your mixture locally, massaging lightly into the area concerned.

Precautions

  • Do not use when pregnant or breastfeeding or on children under 6 years of age.

  • Photosensitising essential oil: do not expose to sunlight or UV rays for at least 10 hours after skin application.

  • Anticoagulant effect. Do not use if you have coagulation disorders or are taking anticoagulant medication. Take care with people prone to bleeding.

  • May be irritating to the skin. Always dilute well before applying to the skin.

  • Certain natural compounds contained in this essential oil may present a risk of allergy in some sensitive individuals when the essential oil is incorporated into a cosmetic composition (according to the 7th Amendment to the European Cosmetics Directive (2003/15/EC)): limonene.

  • As a general rule, always carry out a test application of your mixture in the crease of the elbow at least 48 hours before using it.

Angelica, also known as "wild celery", grows wild in central and northern Europe. It owes its name to its purported magical properties: worn as an amulet, it is said to protect against evil spells, and its various interesting properties earned it the nickname "Root of the Holy Ghost" during the Renaissance.

However, these spoon ratios depend on a number of factors (e.g. viscosity of the liquid, temperature, depth and size of the spoon, rheological behaviour of the liquid), and we strongly advise you to use precise measuring equipment, such as graduated test tubes, graduated pipettes, and precision scales.

Directions for use: Apply this mixture to the solar plexus 2 times a day for 15 days.

Directions for use: Apply 5 drops of this preparation to the solar plexus and the inside of the wrists 2 to 3 times a day for a maximum of 3 weeks.

Emergency measure :

  • Sweet basil or Angelica archangelica essential oil

Use: pour 1 to 2 drops of one of these essential oils onto a handkerchief and breathe in.

Atmospheric diffusion:

  • Grapefruit essential oil: 2 drops (or Bergamot essential oil: 3 drops)

  • Neroli essential oil: 1 drop

  • Sweet Basil essential oil: 1 drop

  • Archangelica essential oil: 2 drops

Use: pour this mixture into a diffuser and leave to diffuse in the room. You can also use this preparation in a regenerating bath by diluting it in 50 ml of fresh cream and then pouring it into the bath water.

  • Nutmeg essential oil: 0.5 ml

  • Rosemary Verbenone essential oil: 1 ml

  • Basil essential oil (ocimum basilicum): 1 ml

  • Wild mint essential oil: 0.5 ml

  • Bay Laurel essential oil: 1 ml

  • Angelica essential oil: 1 ml

Directions for use: Put 2 drops of this mixture on your forehead and on the inside of your wrists and breathe in as often as necessary during the day or night (no restrictions). You'll notice that you'll need less and less, as the urge to eat, for example, fades.
