Amyris or West Indian Sandalwood (Amyris balsamifera), a member of the Rutaceae family, should not be confused with white sandalwood, which is native to India and belongs to the Santalaceae family. West Indian Sandalwood was called "torchwood" by the inhabitants of Haiti because the essential oil contained in its wood means it burns for a long time.
