Our Formulation Charter
Look after yourself with complete confidence
Since 1999, we have chosen natural ingredients over controversial synthetic alternatives. We have never used parabens, silicones or synthetic mineral oils, among others. We are committed to the safety of our formulations and follow a formulation charter that goes beyond European regulatory requirements. Find out how our scientific teams formulate your products.
Our skincare philosophy: naturally derived formulas that are effective for your skin and hair.
Why choose natural products? To benefit from powerful active ingredients, to ensure solutions that are safe for human health, and to minimise our impact on the environment.
We are constantly innovating to offer you natural alternatives to conventional formulations on the market. We prioritise organic farming for our plant extracts.
Our natural dermo-cosmetic active ingredients, such as vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, are derived from biotechnologies validated by the COSMOS standard to protect the environment and natural resources.
Take, for example, the Spilanthes Concentrated Serum with Botox-like effect. It works thanks to an innovative plant-based complex that inhibits muscle contractions, combined with a synergistic blend of hyaluronic acid, Cacay oil and Astragalus. Its formula is 100% natural, certified organic and vegan.
Our stance on synthetic ingredients
We adhere to the COSMOS standard for natural cosmetics, with the exception of certain active ingredients that are not available in their natural form but are of vital importance and proven effectiveness (niacinamide, peptides in the hair and eyelash serum (Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1), vitamins, etc.). We select these active ingredients with the utmost rigour to ensure their effectiveness, whilst remaining very vigilant about their complete safety and constantly seeking natural alternatives.
Niacinamide Spotlight
Until recently, niacinamide was only available in synthetic form. In 2025, we sourced a new grade of niacinamide that is 60% naturally derived, obtained through biotechnology. We specifically selected this exceptionally pure grade for its very low residual nicotinic acid content of less than 100 ppm, compared with levels of up to 1,000 ppm in other grades available on the market. This high level of purity helps minimise the risk of skin irritation and ensures excellent skin tolerance.
Our formulations, particularly those of our serums, are also highly concentrated in dermocosmetic active ingredients of natural origin. We select these active ingredients with care for their proven efficacy, their safety for human health and their excellent skin tolerance. We prioritise active ingredients that are 100% of natural origin, derived from biotechnology. The emulsifiers, surfactants and emollients in our formulations are sourced exclusively from green chemistry.
Let’s take two examples: we have chosen to work with a producer of virgin Cacay oil, who supports a responsible, sustainable and ethical supply chain in the Meta region of Colombia. This terroir gives the oil the most beneficial biochemical composition for the skin: a high content of retinol and vitamin E, and a texture that absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film.
Our 10% Vitamin C serum is enriched with astaxanthin, a microalgae with powerful antioxidant properties that is excellent for combating oxidative stress. Astaxanthin is cultivated in closed bioreactors (glass tubes) at a production facility that operates to the highest quality standards and uses eco-friendly technology. Astaxanthin is extracted using supercritical CO₂, without the use of any chemical solvents , resulting in an active ingredient of very high purity. The CO₂ used comes from 100% biogenic sources and is fully recycled within the process.

We work with our own plant-based raw materials and active ingredients, sourced, validated and verified by our scientific experts. This approach enables us to maintain 100% control over the quality of our formulations.
At Aroma-Zone, the selection of active ingredients is based on our long-standing expertise in active ingredients and raw materials, with over 25 years’ experience in selecting them, and a catalogue of more than 900 ingredients. We select our active ingredients based on six fundamental criteria: their scientifically proven efficacy, their stability, their bioavailability (ability to reach their target in the skin or hair), their compatibility within the formula, their tolerability and their safety. In our formulas:
Active ingredients are incorporated at concentrations where efficacy has been demonstrated; they are never under-dosed
Dosage levels are adjusted in line with available scientific data
Skin tolerance is systematically taken into account
Our laboratory also develops innovative combinations of active ingredients that greatly enhance each one’s individual efficacy.
Our formulations are designed according to a functional approach, where each ingredient fulfils a specific role:
Biological active ingredient
Structural or delivery role.
This approach helps to minimise the use of ingredients that do not contribute to efficacy. Formulations can therefore be simpler, as a thorough selection and formulation process ensures that only the necessary elements are retained.
Across our entire range of serums, for example, we use hyaluronic acid as a gelling agent rather than a texturising agent such as xanthan gum. Hyaluronic acid provides its moisturising and plumping properties whilst giving our serums a very pleasant gel-like texture, making our formulations even more effective for your skin.
All our skincare products, formulated for proven efficacy, undergo toxicological analysis and a range of specific tests. We carry out local tolerance tests (irritation, eye tests, photosensitisation, etc.), clinical trials and in vitro tests on reconstructed human skin to guarantee perfect skin tolerance. These models have a physiological structure similar to that of human skin; they are reproducible, robust and in line with the brand’s strong commitments, as they are certified vegan .
Take, for example, the Oat & Ceramides NP Lipid-Restoring Balm. It has been tested and approved for use from birth, meeting the highest standards of skin tolerance and health safety. All this, with a 100% naturally derived formula, certified organic and vegan, which provides immediate relief for irritated skin.

Stricter than European standards. By choosing natural formulations that meet the requirements of the COSMOS standard, we go beyond European regulations. For example, we exclude a large number of synthetic ingredients that are questioned for their impact on the environment or are the subject of any other controversy.
This extensive family of thousands of chemical compounds has been widely used in everyday consumer products since the 1950s, particularly in make-up and cosmetics. These persistent pollutants can harm human health and the environment.
We have never used PFAS, and we go a step further. We stay ahead of regulatory requirements by testing our finished products, formulations and primary packaging for traces of PFAS, using independent laboratories to verify their absence.
Microplastics are banned from our formulations. These tiny plastic particles (smaller than 5 mm) are added to certain conventional cosmetics, cleansers and make-up products for their exfoliating, texturising or film-forming properties. The problem with them? As they are non-biodegradable, microplastics cause long-term pollution of inland waters and the oceans, threatening wildlife and, potentially, human health. You’ll recognise them in the INCI list under names such as carbomer, polyethylene, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, acrylates copolymer, nylon-12, dimethicone, polyacrylate…
To avoid them, opt for certified organic products (Ecocert, COSMOS) which prohibit their use.
At Aroma-Zone, our skincare routines are developed by our scientific teams, validated by dermatologists who sit on our scientific committee, and analysed by our toxicology department to ensure the safety of every combination of formulations.
That is why, if you wish to ensure the complete safety of your skincare routine, it is best to use products designed and tested to work together, rather than combining formulations from different sources whose compatibility has not been assessed.
