Maximum safety for all our products
Taking care
Our commitment: to offer you high-performance skincare products whilst guaranteeing they are safe for your health under normal conditions of use. With a world-class, fully in-house toxicology department, the safety of all our products (cosmetics, food supplements, plant extracts, essential oils, etc.) is at the heart of our expertise. Our ingredients, finished products and packaging are assessed by a team of toxicologists.
“The safety and health of our consumers are fundamental pillars in the development of our products. We work hand in hand with the Research & Development department from the very earliest stages of product creation.”
Adeline Nalin, Head of Regulatory Affairs and Toxicology, Eurotox Toxicologist
"I have been working in the field of toxicology for over 20 years and I am Eurotox-certified. This is the highest level of European certification in toxicology, reviewed every five years. It requires daily monitoring of regulatory developments and continuous professional development. This accreditation ensures we meet the highest standards in toxicology; it is a guarantee of safety for consumers.
My role at Aroma-Zone is to ensure that all our products are safe for consumers under normal conditions of use. I work with two Doctors of Pharmacy in my team; there are three of us toxicologists and one ecotoxicologist, who contributes her expertise on the biodegradability of our formulations. We leave nothing to chance. Everything is subjected to a methodical and thorough toxicological analysis to ensure minimal risk during everyday use and throughout a consumer’s lifetime."
What is toxicology?
72 per cent of the European population uses cosmetics every day, across all ages and genders. As such, we are all exposed on a massive scale to numerous substances found in our hygiene and beauty products. The role of our toxicologists is to verify, through data analysis and a range of tests, that every product we launch is safe for your skin and your health.
Our formulations minimise sources of intolerance as much as possible: fragrances, harsh preservatives, denatured alcohols, etc. All our skincare products undergo in-depth data analysis and a series of local tolerance tests (skin tolerance, phototoxicity, eye tolerance, etc.). We carry out in vitro tests on three-dimensional reconstructed human epidermis models. These models have a physiological structure similar to that of human skin; they are reproducible, robust and aligned with the brand’s strong commitments, as they are certified vegan. This enables us to observe any markers of inflammation and assess how the formula behaves on the skin to guarantee perfect skin tolerance. These tests enable us to determine cell viability, first through an MTT cell proliferation assay, followed by an assay for interleukins IL-1α and IL-8, which are markers of immediate and delayed inflammation. They provide results that complement skin compatibility tests (patch tests) or skin acceptability tests (use tests), offering a scientific understanding of how a formulation behaves.
Once the products have passed the in vitro tests, we carry out clinical trials in independent laboratories on a target panel of volunteers.
Did you know?
Animal testing has been banned in Europe for over 10 years – and thank goodness for that. Under Regulation (EU) No 655/2013, claims relating to characteristics that are in fact required by regulation are prohibited. Consequently, statements such as ‘not tested on animals’, which suggest to consumers that other products on the European market are tested on animals, are prohibited.
Endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, genotoxicity, systemic toxicity (affecting organs): all the ingredients we use, all our products and all our formulations are analysed to eliminate any risk and ensure they are as safe as possible for your health. By choosing to adhere strictly to the COSMOS standard, we also avoid the most problematic ingredients (PFAS, etc.). Our formulation charter is more stringent than European regulations
“The brand is deeply committed to tackling endocrine disruptors. On the one hand, we maintain close regulatory monitoring of this ‘evolving’ issue. Furthermore, we have an in-house Research and Development team that enables us to ‘blacklist’ all ingredients currently suspected of having harmful endocrine-disrupting effects. We apply this principle to both our ingredients and our packaging.”

Our proactive approach to substances of concern
As well as banned ingredients, our teams of toxicologists actively monitor emerging substances: those whose effects are still being assessed, but which show scientific signs of concern. We continuously review international scientific publications and the work of regulatory bodies to identify these signs before they lead to bans.
Our routines are safe
At Aroma-Zone, our skincare routines are developed by our scientific teams, validated by dermatologists who are members of our scientific committee, and analysed by our toxicology department to ensure the safety of every combination of formulas.
That is why, if you wish to ensure the complete safety of your skincare routine, it is best to use products designed and tested to work together, rather than combining formulations from different sources whose compatibility has not been assessed.
How are all uses of essential oils made safe?
Our scientific experts have developed a unique safety assessment process for our essential oils. This is a feature unique to Aroma-Zone that sets us apart from many other brands. We carry out a toxicological profile of all our essential oils, taking into account all possible routes of administration and ensuring the safety of all uses recommended on our website. We do not rely solely on historical data, but rather on a rigorous scientific toxicological methodology.
Do we assess the environmental impact of our formulations?
We are working on the biodegradability of our formulas, and an ecotoxicologist joined our team several months ago. We have helped draft a standard, the GREEN IMPACT INDEX, which aims to assign a score to each product (cosmetics, food supplements, and health and wellbeing products) based on its environmental and societal impact. This rating will be introduced for our products in 2026.
